I have been using a TomTom car GPS for a couple years without much issue, however I am looking at upgrading to a truck GPS. I have been using a garmin 465 for a couple weeks to road test it.

here are some features I would like to have
ability to build and save a custom route for places I go to every week including fuel stops

ability to remove roads from the database so if I have to detour it won't route me on roads I know have problems or aren't a legal truck route
one place I deliver to has 4 ways to get to it, but 2 of them you will get a ticket, and one of them has a weight restricted bridge

Just like some units have live traffic updates, being able to update on scalehouses that are open with the push of a button would be an awesome feature

I know that those features don't exist yet, but would be cool if they did.
Anyway how does the TND 500 compare to the garmin I would like to have input from users that have used both

dieselboss, if you read this comment: Have you seen the email that i sent you? if you have, can you please give me a call? Thanks

I've said before I'm using an OLD Garmin car GPS. I just take where it says to go with a grain of salt!

MOST of the time if it recognizes the address, it gets me there in fine fashion.

This does NOT happen so much in NJ.....

I bought a Garmin 465t at Loves about a week ago. I have mixed reviews so far. I'm told that I can trade it in or get a refund within 30 days. Is the TND 500 better at routing then the 465t? Also, is the TND 500 better at finding truckstops and does it display the speed limit? I'm considering trading the Garmin 465t for a TND 500.

Can't answer your first couple of questions as I'm not familiar with the 465t, but can tell you that the TND500 does display the speed limit and your current speed. You can also set an "alarm" to notify you when you're "X" amount of miles per hour over the speed limit. I really like that feature.

Personally, I think the 500 is a marginally better router then the 465T bearing in mind that the database for both is the same.

I do think however the that the truck specific POI base is far better-it being directly based on the The Trucker's Friend guide. It also looks like the next update for the 500/700 will bring these unit's eye-candy close to Garmin's level as well as install a new data-base.

The one major difference at this time between both units really is the Garmin's life-time traffic subscription vs. RM's lack of one (at present anyway). This is not a deal breaker for me however because of the reality of actually re-routing around traffic issues-just not possible sometimes.

I like the 500 over the Garmin though I admit I use it and another brand together. I think you'll probably like the RM over the Garmin better but the only way to know for sure is to actually get one and check it out.
