I had preplanned loads canceled rescheduled and canceled this week too. Must have some newbies in the planning department. Lucky you, another couple of weeks and I90 is off limits. Enjoy the mountains, and stay ahead of the snow. Yes I said it again. Got to love it when you can stop by home, during a trip.

Stevens has an account now that sucks....Sabra out of Astoria NY, where you drop your trailer in the street, park and wait and wait....Then it is to A suburb of Richmond VA to the new warehouse. 7 stevens trucks a day, 368 miles...Now stevens schedules appointments, but they mean nothing with Sabra, trucks are loaded in the order they show up in NY, and as of this week, the warehouse in Colonial Heights will only be unloading shuttles between 11pm and 7 am. Regardless of what time Stevens says. How do I know all this, I spent 2 days there, between the Pilot 1.2 miles away, and delivering 2 loads, and picking up 1, and having 1 canceled.

When going into Astoria, don't try and make the left turn from the service road to 49th st....unless you want to climb the 6 in curb with both steers, and one side of the drives. There is no way 53 ft trailers should be on these streets.

I was interested to see this. I am 57 myself and having recently had my job outsourced by my company (...but cagey, this is great. now you can retire early!) I've decided to hit the road. Kids are gone, spouse travels for her job, I figure in 3-4 years maybe I really can retire. I was looking ar Roehl or Willis Shaw, but it looks like Stevens is more age friendly. I'm from Alabama and hopefully in their hiring area, I believe I'll call their recruiting office Monday. I'm set up for a local community college training in late October. (I really want to pay for it myself so I'm not locked into a company) I'll be following your story.

I love it when you youngsters worry about being too old!
I'm thinking about starting a geriatrics drivers' group at Stevens.

If everything goes right and I start with Stevens in a few weeks, I may have to join that early. It seems that AARP has been trying to force me into early retirement. I'm only 27 and twice now they have sent me all of their information packets with the make believe AARP cards saying that I am just one phone call away from all their savings.

I thought I posted earlier but must have hit wrong button. Sitting in Lakeland FL waiting for first drop to well....drop. 2nd drop is at 2am in West Palm Beach. After that then doubling back across FL to pick up at Tropicana then headed back to Texas. Not all that thrilled to stay in the south after having gotten a taste of cooler weather the last few days.

The meat load we are delivering is time sensative. We got it several hours late (not our fault) so I have been pressed into service and have gotten to drive more than I normally would have in my first week. Still kinding gears hear and there and have had a few butt pucker moments but loving every minute of it. Really getting settled into life on the road.

As we wait to get unloaded, we are watching football and as you can see doing internet stuff. More importantanly, getting some rest.

Back to the age thing. If you can drag yourself into a top bunk you are in good enough shape to do this job.

    Congrats on the new truck!

In regards to the DEF: if you're Alliance, hunt out the fuel stops that have a bulk DEF pump. It's around $2.99 / gallon via the bulk pump versus $13.99 for a 2.5 gallon jug in the truck stops.

And the bright side to having a T700 with the DEF as opposed to a T660 with DEF: your DEF tank is on the driver's side. The bulk DEF pumps that I've used (the Pilot at x39 on I-40 in New Mexico comes to mind) are located next to the card reader on the driver's side of the tractor (unless you pull in the fuel island from the wrong direction). Makes filling up the DEF tank a breeze. The geniuses that designed the SCR system on the new T660 decided it'd be a great idea to place that DEF tank on the passenger side of the tractor. So I either get to A: pull into the fuel island from the wrong direction and make lots of new friends on the CB; or B: hope that there's room to cozy-up next to the backside of the DEF pump (as I did at the above mentioned Pilot) and block up the through-lane for the trucks trying to get around the fuel island, thus making more friends on the CB. Makes for a good time, lemme tell ya. :) Oh, and the formula that the DEF will constitute 2% of your fuel economy (in other words, you will burn 1 gallon of DEF for every 50 gallons of fuel you burn) seems to be fairly accurate. THat's about the rate I've encountered over the past two weeks in my T660.

The T700 comes with an LCD TV from the factory? Ol man Aaron sprung for that? That's awesome!

Sitting in Kingman at the Petro waiting for a repower to showup tonight at 2300. Gotta be in Fresno at 0900. Yay me....I love driving overnight :biggrin_25513:

    Everyone stay safe!

The second drop of this repower I'm waiting on drops at this exact location on Tuesday morning. Do they have overnight parking there? I highly doubt it being that it's Sysco AND it's in the bay area. It shouldn't be a problem though because of the abundance of truck stops in that area *sarcasm*.

No TV, just the bracket to attach the TV too. Interior is speced out as cheapo as possible, yet look nice. Only upgrade, the carpet in the sleeper.
