I know they dont just "fall off" there are some places that pulled his 10yr MVR and he was turned down because of it. (he acted like an idiot straight out of high school & has now learned) I guess it has something to do with the points system and it wouldnt be that big of an insurance liability. Not to sure since I am not in the industry!

Stevens could care less when he paid them. They allow you like 3-4 moving violations in like a 2-3 year time period. That's a little high in my opinion.

thanks for this. That's what I told him. I don't know a whole lot about the industry but I do have the patience to sit down & research things like crazy. Not to mention I stay at home with the baby & our 7 year old, so I have the time. I told him they were all 3 "evil" and he just had to pick the lesser of all evils to get his experience. He knows his MVR has sent him to these places & also an unemployment gap due to a lay off at another company (not a trucking one). We had our fingers crossed on Maverick but with the unemployment gap he didn't get it. So these are his choices.

Thank you as well. He knows the 1st year up to the first 3 years is going to be tough. He was first talking about getting the minimum exp needed to be able to move on to another company but I told him he needed to at least put 1-3 years in because if he didn't he would look like a job hopper & companies frown on that.

He had only seen positive things about Stevens until I found the motherload of negative stuff this morning. Swift he has heard all types of horror stories. However, we see more Swift trucks where we live compared to the 1 Stevens truck. Western Express was fishy in my opinion b/c orientation is only 1 day compared to 3-4 days. We have a 4 month old & a 7 year old so he is also considering home time. We want him to run as much as he can to make a good impression to DM & FM, get the experience, and of course a decent paycheck....but I told him being out 5-7 weeks at a time with maybe 3 days off (some have stated this with Stevens) isn't going to work with the kids. We have lived the military life so I am used to handling things myself, so I am up to the challenge. But I also want his son to know who he is. I like how most Swift Drivers say they are home after 2 weeks out depending on loads.

Main concern with Swift is if they have the available freight to get the miles & I worry about the sliding pay scale. Stevens has guranteed miles (so I have read) but I worry about the loads coming to SC causing him to have no hometime.

I'm sure you know the hometime problem that comes with trucking.

If hubby has a laptop he can take on the road, and you can keep the one you're using now, I highly recommend using Skype to stay in touch. It's video conferencing (high quality video, too, as long as you have braodband, not just jerky, pixelized stuff), and it is FREE.

Most truckstops anymore have WiFi, and that's all you'll need. It's dead simple to set up and use, and works great in my experience.

If those are the only choices, I've heard less heartache about Western Express, than the other two.
My advice is given freely, value accordingly.

He has talked to some people that worked for Western Express. He has a close friend that was actually short on ALL his checks from them. He stayed busy but they would steal his money. My husband is grown enough to know that respect is earned out on the road, but he is smart enough to not let ignorant people bring him down when they make fun of him because he works for a company they may not like. It seems a little childish in my opinion & I am sure there are some better things those truckers could do. I believe once you get ####y enough to do crap like that.....that's when you end up making stupid mistakes.

Pretty much anywhere you go to start seems like it will be Evil as you say. I have been looking into Stevens, Swift, and Driver Solutions/USA Truck/P.A.M. Not sure which one I will be going with yet. But I say hey if you dont have the cash to pay for school like me, then we will have to goto the "Trucking Mill" as they call it. Good thing is we only have to be gone for 1 year. Then we can move on to the bigger, better cash, and jobs. Better companies. Right now I am leaning more to Driver Solutions. I am talking with a cat that just went through there, and is now training with USA truck. Seems to be going real well. I just want to get my foot in the door, get the 1 year, then move on to a better company, or even local driving.

I went through the mill (Driver Solutions to PAM). Pay runs anywhere from the high 200's to the 5-600's depending on how many miles I get a week.

I'm about 6 months in and did have a few problems early on.

Are you saying he has been a truck driver or are these tickets in a 4 wheeler?

If he has any experience and a CDL already PAM might not be the worst thing out there. It has gotten a LOT better for me when my DM disappeared and I got the one I have now!!!

oh yes I am aware of the hometime issues. We discussed that a lot before he went to school. With him being in the army in the past....I am used to that lifestyle in a sense. It will be tough but ultimately it makes the marriage stronger (in my eyes). I have been looking into skype & that will definitely be someting we use. We have an older laptop that we are either going to sell or give to the 7 year to play her games & cd's....then we will buy him a newer one that can get wifi access along with a webcam for the skype.

We just have to decide on a company now. It's ultimately his decision but we are working together on the questions to ask. Its really between Swift & Stevens but he's put in some other apps over the weekend. We just cant decide which is the lesser of 2 evils. Swift seems to get you home more but Stevens seems to have the hauls. Its so stressing!

My husband got his CDL at a Technical College here locally. So he doesn't need the schooling part. He has the CDL Class A w/ tanker, hazmat, doubles/triples endorsements. of course he needs a company' training program like any recent grad but he wants to make sure he isn't on the road away from us and making only like $200-$300 once thru training.
