So it seems like most of these threads are about the big guys.
I wanna hear about the little guys!
I may even be interested in driving for one of them little guys, if the pay, equipment, and treatment is right.
I got 5 yrs exp.(in Nov.) with only 2 companies. I've only done dry van and blanket-wrap. But I ain't skeert neither!
My motto is: "work smart, not hard"
Though I'm not afraid of a lil work either.
And I do NOT believe in working for a publicly-traded trucking company!
Oh yeah, I'm domiciled in Indiana for now. But plans are in the works for relocation to the Nashville area.
Also, I LIKE running west!!!!
We got family in Ontario,CA area as well as Klamath Falls, Medford/Central Point, Portland and Eugene Oregon areas.
I'll take L.A. over NYC, Atlanta, or Chicago ANY DAY!!!
In fact, I say no NYC/Long Island, or Canada.
The rest is fair game, but gimme the longer loads. (I don't wanna be sittin in dock everyday and I like my sleep)
So how bout them smaller trucking companies???

I see you're in Ashland City, my parents lived there a few years back. You've got R.E. West right there and I noticed Mesilla Valley Transport hauls a lot out of the A.O. Smith water heater plant. Nashville is another story you've got quite a few companies based out of there, I don't think you'll have any problem finding work in that area.
-
Ashland City is where I'm looking to re-locate to.
BTW, you just listed the BIGGER companies in the area, not the SMALLER ones. -
I don't think RE West is all that big, I understand Mesilla is a big carrier but they might operate at a smaller level working with AO Smith water heaters. Sorry I couldn't be of more help, Ashland City is pretty remote with not a whole lot to offer but luckily for you it's pretty centrally located. Good luck....

RE West is small. Anything under 250 trucks in middle TN is small. Lots of companies like that in middle TN to choose from. Lots that are way smaller than that too. Most all of them are pretty decent outfits getting you home weekends treating you like a person not a # etc.

I think it is rather funny that people do not hear more about the little guys, since over 80% of the class 8 trucks on the road are owned by company's with less than 25 trucks.
Panhandle flash, Texas-Nana, The Challenger and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think it is rather funny that people are scared to go to NYC! Hey Chromedome I wonder if we crossed paths while working for Central? What year did you start there? If you don't mind me asking? You look familiar.
-
Believe it or not, fear isn't the only reason people avoid NYC, or any other city you care to name. Not everyone lives in cities, not even small ones.
Add disgust, revulsion, even religious beliefs to reasons to avoid NYC -
I was starting at Central when I became a member here, so the date will be the same. June 2007.
I went to them for a refresher, since the industry does not like local experiance and my other experiance was too far back to verify, since the company did not use DAC. -
In all honesty, I do not hate NY city at all. I just dislike parts of it like the high traffic. I heard its not that bad at night.
TLG,
Good luck sir in your search for the perfect company for you. From what I have observed, its the word of mouth that leads to jobs within these companies.
