SouthernPride... Thanks a million, read your post and got the job. two other guys in my class wore shorts and t-shirts. I wore dockers and a button down, trying to look as professional as i could. I got the job offer, the other two are wondering why they havent heard anything back yet. Thanks again..

    ,

i have to say one of the best things i have learned is that listening to what some of the people in this industry have been through and done can be one of the best and worst things to do

Best, because they have been there and they have done it and they have had the ups and the downs of this and they will HELP people that want help as long as they have the nuts to ask

Worst, because there are some drivers out there that do this only because they cant stand change so they make this industry sound and look bad to each and everyone else that asks and don't ask

as a new driver you have to take in what you want to take in and that is solely up to them

Southernpride i have alot of respect for you for giving the advice that you give!!!

Thanks drivers. I appreciate the advice, but what does a professional truck driver dress like. Dockers and a button shirt? Jeans and a t-shirt? Suit and tie? Serious question; what would you recommend a driver wear. I want to impress my interviewer that I am a hard working, clean, professional that will be a positive representative of the trucking company I drive for - so help me out.

epically good post, as much as we new drivers do need it drilled into our head that its not all sunshine and rainbows out there, it is great to see a positive encouraging post like this. sadly a lot of this generation still wont hack it. but life is what YOU make of it guys, dont expect a free ride.

this man speaks the truth i was so skeptical and expecting to be looking months like i did in the wheel-less workforce going in, but i got hired with my first choice and never had to apply anywhere else. not everyone may be THAT lucky, but what you do will go a long way to whether it happens that way or not.

Just be clean driver. New jeans and a polo type shirt or Dockers and a button down are fine. Polished work boots is a plus. Dress like you can step right into doing whatever job you are applying for. Lose the flip flops and sweat pants.

Let me add. Too many drivers settle for the bottom feeders because they are either too lazy or scared to call the better companies. What do you have to lose? All they can do is say no. But then they know your name and after doing your time somewhere else you are more likely to get a shot. Go to the website of some company that requires a year and call the VP of training and see what he says. What do you have to lose. Don't settle!

    Its the Southernpride way.

A good pair of bluejeans and a clean button down shirt will work fine if you wear a tshirt be sure it has no writing on it ...

Thanks for all of the good advice. As someone who hasn't even started a trucking school yet (but am seriously looking forward to it) I believe trucking is just like another job out there in the respect that you get out of it what you put into it
