they are a brokerage company thats how they started out then they got into trucking. but first and foremost the brokerage comes first. they will brokerage loads to others before they give them to company drivers. i found that out when sitting in laredo for 3 days and the load board was full of loads being brokered by crst. we called dispatch and they stated "those loads aren't for you"

It's a front. It's pretty clear with a serious look into it that they're making more money off scamming the government for grants than hauling freight. They are the second worst bottom feeder..right next to arrow. For some reason i think they would have no issue at all with pulling an arrow.

    That's very odd......

Well I guess I know who I'm going to go work for if I ever get a brokerage certificate :biggrin_25523:

Well if we're talking about second worst bottom feeder I worked for C.R. England before them, and I can tell you from first hand experience CRST is a lot better off in my humble opinion, but that is just an opinion.

But irregardless I'm not going back to work for either one of them,I'm in the middle of the interview process for drive a cement truck.18 an hour ain't too terrible but it's been a lot more than I've been making in trucking since I've started.

BS. I get 4000-5000 a week easy. I've been slammed ever since I got back from hometime. The only day off I've had was Labbor Day.
Phroziac has never worked for this company. I don't know what his problem with it is.

I've only been driving 14 months, all at CRST. I can only speak of my expierence with them. I have only been home late for hometime once, by a couple of hours. I've had the same dispatcher all but one month of my time with the company, I think that has alot to do with it. My first month after training I was with a diff. dispatcher and he tried to make me stay out past my hometime date even though I requested the time off within the first few days out. But after my co-driver and I resisted he got us home. There have been a couple of times I was in my home state early and was given the option to go home early or take a load out with a pre-planned load back. Sometimes I agree for the money. It seems to me that most of the issues mentioned could have been cleared up by requesting a new dispatcher.
As far as the pay for running without a co-driver, it is 22cpm now.(for all the miles). Yes, the miles are usually very low when running solo as a company driver(mostly city work). That is because CRST is an expedited freight company and the majority of their loads are setup for teams. If you went thru the Lead Drivers class, you could always p/u a student and get paid more.
I run alot of time sensitive loads and on occasion have been dispatched a hot load that was already late on the p/u. But if I was unable to deliver it ontime, I was not punished. The trucks only do 65mph, so if the transit time is blown out because I was dispatched late the company doesn't hold you responsible.(keeping in mind that I deliver the rest of my loads ontime and it shows in the system)
The comments regarding brokerage loads is true, I have seen them on the board as well. But CRST has plenty of loads to go around. I have laid over in Laredo for a few days one time last year, let me tell you the truckstops were full of multiple companies in the same situation. I guess the freight was too cheap. If you find a co-driver that you work well with and loads are delivered ontime consistently, they will keep yopu moving.

CRST has issues, just like any large company. However they are debt free, buying new equipment and opening a new terminal. I just wanted people to hear another side.

    good luck to all...

Of course I get paid for only half the miles. I only drive half the miles. Right now I'm driving solo for two weeks because my co-driver has some issues. They got him right home and I got out after a day which is pretty good for Miami.

The one thing I have learned from my latest co-driver is you have to be pro-active. You can't just sit quietly and wait for loads. My first dispatcher was horrible. This new one is awesome. Plus, it helps to get in good with air freight. We are a number 1 speed rated hazmat team. We rock it and they know it.

I do plan on moving on to solo somewhere in the future. It's hard to get hired out of South Florida. My last co-driver went to Western Express for less money.

Sure CRST brokers loads, but we also run loads for other companies. I've even pulled other company's trailers.
