Ok now I had purchased 2 microwaves and they boy do The same thing the first was a 700watt Emerson that worked until you hit cook then cut out like it didn't have enough power then I bought a 600watt Kenmore same thing happens. I see tons of people with microwave in there truck but why don't mine work I refuse to pay $200 for the TA wave box I have a apu with a 2000watt inverter please help. Do I have to order it some where or do I need a analog one with turn dials?

a microwave takes more power on start than what is posted--but your inverter should be enough to make them work--maybe try a different inverter?

I have a $39 Wally World Special. Works fine on my 1800w inverter, however sometimes it will shut off a few seconds after starting. I just do it again, and it works.
You're right, in that the starting power is higher and is probably kicking it off, however there is one more thing to check. How do you have it plugged in? Is there an extension cord from the inverter to the microwave plug? If your wiring is too light, it will have too much resistance and cause a voltage drop that will kick the thing off.

Microwave ovens are definitely voltage sensitive. Inverter ratings are often distorted, too, especially the cheaper ones. Tripp-Lite is a benchmark brand that is as reliable as gravity, but costs twice as much and weighs twice as much as many others with the same output rating that are iffy. As they say, "You do the math."

Bottom line is you must mess with the combinations a bit sometimes to see what works. Also, the power sag "hit" upon startup of an appliance is less if the truck is running when the inverter is. You might try that first, if you've had the engine off until now.

I would have to question the quality of inverter with the APU. Before I bought my truck I run now I had a lease truck with a fancy pants expensive APU (wasnt' worth excriment). The APU that was supplied with the system was extrodinarily cheap and would make anything I pluged into it with electronics act wierd. I come to the conclusion this was because it wasn't putting out a clean sin wave (the frequecy wave wasn't close enought to house hold 60 hz). the Quality of the frequency wave can determin alot with a microwave. In short with out anymore boreing details you can either
    A. spend 100-150 and get a better inverter (I like the sigma's I've owned that had the "smooth start technology")
    or
    B. you could try to run your power inverter threw a UPS (Uninterupted Power Supply). The same thing you'd plug a computer into to prevent surges AND keep the computer from loosing power immediatly during a power outage. They can filter the Sin wave AND provide a little extra juice in the event that start up draws a little extra power. This would probably be more expensive cause I haven't priced the cost of UPS lately and I think they are more expensive than an inverter
