    Hey there.

I'm wondering if there is anything I can buy to make it possible to connect my Xbox to it's Xbox Live service while on the road.

I'm sure a handful of drivers out there are gamers, and I highly doubt that if I was able to connect my 360 to any truck stop connection, that it wouldn't be fast enough for Live, so I'[m wondering if I could get pointed in the right direction from anyone who's tried anything. Mobile hotspot? Crossover cable?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

You could get your Xbox connected to Live relatively easily, but you most likely won't be able to actually PLAY anything multiplayer. Any cellular broadband service you get won't have the upload speed and will be laggy as hell. You could get one of those Verizon mobile hotspots (others probably have them now too) and that would work.

Sorry, but truck stop connections may be the fastest you can get for gaming bro.
3G could have faster download speeds, but is extremely frustrating with games because of a fairly high ping(150ms atleast) and small download limit. And I mean its so annoying it makes you throw things.

As for getting access to xbox from truckstop wifi. That's a tough. I'm not exactly sure, you might beable to use a pc to log in to the wifi, then use internet-sharing to the xbox with a cable?
Or somehow find a way for the pc to copy the xbox's mac address, log in, then shut off pc, turn on xbox.

When I used to live in hotel 5 days a week, this one hotel had the same login crap as truck stops do. I had a Wii and buddy had an xbox. We had to call tech support to get the mac address automatically accepted into the system for them to work. The company had a policy to not allow gaming consoles on teh network. So we waited a day, called again and told them we had PDA's with internet explorer locked out, yet they require wifi to update our work's software to work. We had no such PDA's, we just gave them the Wii's n xbox's mac address after they complied. Total lie, but a mac address is a mac address, they wont know the difference.

You might beable to pull the same BS.

Latency in a 360 is not nearly the issue it is on a computer, since the 360 is sooooo much slower processing than even the slowest of computers.
This is why Microsoft has basically canned the idea of games that can be used across platforms to be played by players on each at the same time.
The console people were getting totally destroyed in all trials.
It was a good idea though.

The 360 isn't exactly "slower than the slowest of computers." The reason the cross-platform thing wouldn't really work is because the control schemes are so different. I'm sure 360 players would crush PC gamers in racing games, for example, but PC gamers would win hands-down in FPSs due to the much more accurate keyboard/mouse combo.

Not sure what you are trying to get after there. But I'm assuming you are talking about internal latency of the platform.

Isp latency is isp latency, it doesn't matter on what platform you are on. Besides FPS games, PC games are mainly MMO's and Strategy games, where high latency doesn't hurt nearly as much.

Xbox is 99% twitch games. Its ALL about the latency. A good latency is under 70ms. If you are over a 100, like cell phone towers give you 150ms, you were dead before you saw the enemy and pulled the trigger. Hence you are throwing your controller at the wall screaming cuz on your screen, it look like you killed him first. Then all of a sudden you're dead and the dude you just shot is teabagging you.

    statikuz Thanks this.

I'm not sure how the Xbox connects, but I used to have a Playstation 2 on the truck, it had a regular ethernet jack. I would plug a crossover cable http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Components-CAT5E-Crossover-Cable/dp/B000067RFT and plug it into my laptop, then turn internet connection sharing on in Windows. This works great if you have a decent wi-fi connection, but like others have said, you're hard pressed to find one these days. 3g can work in some areas, but your ping is going to be high.

I have a PS3, and it has an internal web browser, allowing me to sign in at the TS. Never touched X360, so I don't know if you have that option. After I'm connected, it really depends on how well the netcode is in each game. For example, I can play NHL11 and Rock Band 2 with little or now issues, but MLB 10:The Show, forget it.

Here is what I do. Just google "use my laptop for xbox wifi" and it will give you instructions. All you need is a ethernet cable. Not all truck stops are fast enough. But I do find them. The Petro in Shreveport La is a decent one for gaming.
