Exactly my point... a student may feel at ease because the Jake is holding the truck at 45mph in ninth. But, when the Jake suddenly quits and the truck gains 10-15 mph almost instantly, the brakes will have a hard time bringing the truck to a stop at that point. And STOP is what they should do.
A student may try to hold the truck at 45mph with the brakes... which, as an experienced driver, you know is a bad idea. -
I have 1 year OTR and start orientation at Stevens on the 27th. How long is orientation?
Thanks -
Orientation for most starts on Sunday and goes thru wednesday. You are assigned a trainer on thursday, but may not get out until the next day or two, depending on your trainer.
Training for O-1 is a minimum of 35 days, with that varying on your attaining certain criteria such as driving in all 5 sections of the country, bumping a dock in the northeast, coming down two mountain passes under load and driving 8500 miles.
If you have 1 year recent OTR, they may elect to change that a bit for you. You'll need to ask your counselor when you're there.pagan22 Thanks this. -
Their website does not state how long their new driver training class is. Does anyone know off the top of their head?

If you're speaking of the CDL Class, I don't know.
If you're speaking of the Orientation and Training for new drivers having been hired, then it works like this:
O-1: Four days classroom, then 35 days (minimum) with your trainer.
This may vary a few days if it takes you longer to procure the minimum requirements. Most students fit in the 35 days. I did.
o-2: Three days classroom, 21 days with finish trainer.
Grad Fleet: One day class. Then you are assigned your truck and dispatched with your first solo load.
Grad Fleet lasts 3 months, but may be extended if you have trouble in any required areas. Most common area of difficulty for grad fleet persons is failure to submit a trip plan with each load.
Once you have been officially hired (at the end of your four days classroom in O-1) you will begin receiving training pay. Currently that is $350 per week (I think). This continues thru O-2.
When you are dispatched with your first solo load in the grad fleet, you will begin to be paid mileage. Currently, beginning rate is 0.26 per mile.
The difference between grad fleet and regular fleet is some paperwork. Otherwise, it's exactly the same, both pay and otherwise.revslev and Texas2Colorado Thank this. -

I am currently a student at HCC for Stevens. This is driving test week for my class. The teacher in the classroom portion said that when we get to Dallas (Oct. 2, fingers crossed), the first day of orientation 25% will wash out. The next day more will disqualify. He said that only 15 to 20% will get a training driver.
Is that true??
Thanks -
What about experienced drivers? .26cpm is somewhat low. Say a driver with 18-24 months experience?

Pay for experienced drivers is negotiable.
