Its just this odd concept that maybe the freight oughta weigh MORE than the frickin' driver!

If overweight at the SCALES just kick the driver off not the extra freight.

There is no law. No lawsuit.

One of their goals or "policy recommendation" is to include weight in the Civil Rights Act or have a separate Federal law to prevent weight discrimination.

They are lobbying for these changes. Don't get your hopes up.

Ya know, it seems like the trucking industry is at the forefront of several issues that are important to our society, and to the business world. I actually saw CNN reference the trucking industry the other day when the stimulus bill with that stupid 1099 bill passed.
Now, I think that as a society we have a problem. Our eating habits are very unhealthy. Blame it on the Fast food industry, or on restaurants, or whatever.
Your BMI will become just like other questions. Yes, smokers cause employers, and themselves to pay more for Health Insurance, because the fact is that smokers are less healthy than non-smokers.
But the BMI is here to stay; just like Smokers have become almost a banned class of people (almost every state now has bans on smoking inside a building). Obesity will become hiring criteria. Although, it will have to go through the courts. (Think about it). When was the last time you saw a questionnaire on an application that asked if you smoke! So it will probably be deemed illegal to ask that up front, but they will still get you at the hiring screening. And there is nothing we can do about it. Employers have that right.
So. If you have a weight problem, then, like me, you will have to make an effort to solve it, and keep fit. I do Physical training 4 times a week.
We as a group, need to stop slamming each other, and begin to work to change the industry. Tell (TA) and other truck stop organizations you want more healthy meals. Work with your local legislators to let them know, that if they want healthy truckers, join OODIA, or ATA, write your congressmen. If they want us to be healthy, then exercise time needs to be built into our schedules so as not to impact our driving time. Otherwise, it's simple economics; (the customer) will have to pay more for freight to be shipped because they have to pay for us to have the time to exercise, just like they pay for us to do our daily operational checks on our truck before we start.
But if your doctor, or the Medical industry says you're over your BMI, then you better get started. And don't try to fool yourself and use your own personal opinion as to your health. If the BMI index says your over, your over, better get started, because as another blogger said. BMI is here to stay, and eventually everyone will be subject to it!

    I need to post!!

Due to hour constraints/regulations etc., I understand why some drivers have a negative appearance. Where is their help?? Some are susceptible for the blueing of veins, huge appearance, etc. Instead of helping your fellow driver out, you just run them down.-- Let's see Pilot (Healthy Food Place got Flying J's) turned some of them into Dennys', CANNOT get a takeout cup of soup for NOTHING!! You know owner/operators and drivers---we deserve more!!!! But no one agrees cuz you could potentially get that fat drivers load!! No I am not fat, actually, about 5'6 and 120 lbs.Come on, the only places we got are Pilots with McDonalds/Subway(not healthy) or Flying J/Pilot could be or not be open. Well, there is a plus, could walk around the shippers yard for 4 hours untill they finally load you, then drive for 11 hours, cuz we logged it at 15 minutes--- Lets stand for our true rights and notthink "we will never be that guy" By the way, some of these big guys have been in the industry cuz they are loners. They never were the babe attack you think you are.
