Well I guess I can go along with it for now - but I'm rather determined to swallow calling myself a wannabe! :biggrin_25523:

I started a post in the newbie section. Just looking for a big change in career. I've always been very interested in trucking. Always stared at them as a kid and was doing the classic horn rope pulling motion to get you guys to blow at me. I'm also the guy that respects what it takes to drive one of these things and if I see your signal on I'm slowing down to let you in and flashing my brights at ya to let you know your clear. Which I 've noticed goes mostly appreciated with a few flashes of the hazards.

At any rate. I'm 29. I am single. I have a girlfriend but she is quite understanding and knows that this OTR thing will mean me be going for a good bit of time. To be honest I'm kind of looking forward to it. Take what's given to you and make the most of it has always been my moto. If I have to be away from home I'd rather them keep me away from home and rackin up the mileage. If I'm not at home and in that truck driving that just means to me I'm makin money - not spending it. So I see it as a nice opportunity to make some money and most importantly save it. If all goes as I hope I've always had the dream of working for myself so maybe buying my own truck could become a reality down the road. I realize it brings in some more head aches - but even if it means some more work and not anymore money I like the idea of making me money instead of someone else money. The OO thing is a secondary goal though - definitely not something I'm set on. One mountain at a time!

In the past I've done mainly customer service work and made my way into management with it. Most recently at Johnson Controls as a Regional Team Leader. Made very good money there but unfortunately due to the loss of some customers during this awesome economy - me being the low man on the totem pole, I was the first to go! Now because of my success there no one wants to consider me for a lower job but for the equal or higher jobs I'm being looked past because of the fact I only have a HS diploma. I got my job based only on my work ethic and production. I busted my rear to get that job and it killed me to lose it. But - its time for a change and if I'm going to change I want to come back to trucking which is what I always thought about when I was younger. Life just lead me away for some reason. Then again - who can turn down a 53k a year job? Not this guy.

Enough babble out of me. I shouldn't be up but I couldn't sleep because I have so much going on. Had to get a transmission in my Jeep today so i could move tomorrow to my dad's. Then its time to figure out how to get my trucking career in gear, slowly let out that clutch and then hit that fuel pedal!

Thanks for the welcome! Once I finish this stinkin move I'll be pursuing my schooling options full steam ahead. I do have a buddy I talked with that said once I finish my schooling I should let him know. Hopefully that will turn out nicely. Always good to have someone get your name in somewhere.

    Welcome to the forum.
Getting into school is the first step as you know and then the rest is yet to be determined. When you start school, fill out plenty of applications with those companies that hire recent grads. Get your prehires and then do your research.
    Good luck to you!
