Here's an actual scenario. I'd be interested in hearing your answers.
Setup: You're driving a daycab, 290/300 Cummins, 10 direct, 4:11 gears. You're hauling a tridem tank holding 10,000 gal of high-test gas.
The road is a narrow 2-lane with 10 ft deep ditches through an area that's nothing but woods. It's about 2AM on a cold winter's night just after a snowstorm with 4 to 6 inches of snow on the road.
Here's your problem. You just spun your way up a steep grade and you're sitting at the top of a 14% grade that's over a mile long with a curve at the bottom. You look down that long hill and it's glittering with ice. As you sit there with your brakes set you feel the rig start to slide forwards.
You know there's no stopping it so you gun it. But before you get halfway down you're out of gears and out of RPM. A glance in the mirror shows you the trailer starting to come around.
Now what do you do????
What would YOU do???

.
I'm guessing a depends is not an option ? -
First thing is either set trailer brakes or pull trolly handle down to keep trailer behind you then feather brakes on tractor and if this doesnt slow you down ...PUT HEAD BETWEEN LEGS AND KISS ### GOODBYE
Les2 Thanks this. -
With the ice you want to remain neutral. You don't want to pull or let the trailer push you. Your only hope is to feather the trailer hand brake and hold her steady. Then hit the runaway ramp. There is one in my story, lol.
Most likely scenario is light a cigarette so it's quick. Stick your head between your legs and say, ####, I'm Stupid. I should of listened when they told me to shut up stupid on the radio.

And if I survived....
I could come to the truckers report & start a thread titled "You'd never guess where my GPS took me"Kansas and end of the road Thank this. -
I can see you doing that and the look on your face

OK, I feathered trailer brakes, trailer is now sliding sideways at a 90 degree angle to the cab.
Remember this is an actual scenario and that I obviously survived ( either that or I'm one helluva ghost writer). C'mon guys, get serious. -
You don't gun it! You start down slowly, very slowly, watch those mirrors and when that trl starts to come around, gently give it some fuel. Then when the trl is behind you, feather(stab/release-gently) the brakes. Repeat. Keep your hand OFF the trl brakes. Do NOT use the johnny bar or your going in the ditch.
