There is no civil lawsuit. Not an issue.

well I'm guessing I did the best thing and I drove 1000 miles to be in court in Ohio and nobody showed up. The cop and the person I hit were not there. The judge had me plead guilty to a broken windshield rather than continue the case. Guess you get lucky sometimes?

You showed up and the LEO and the other driver didn't, were there any injuries involved in this accident?

BTW, you did the right thing showing up in court. I also congratulate you.

The Officer who wrote the ticket didn't show and the other driver didn't show. No witnesses. It makes me wonder though if it was just an orchestrated way of getting more money out of me. The fine doubled because I had to pay not only the windshield ticket, but another "witness fee" for $150 also. Making the ticket $150+$150+$67 in court costs. I'm guessing the witness fee was for the pretrial court hearing when the other driver showed up? I should have asked, but I didn't. I'm done with it.

Oh and if you ever think of doing something stupid like this...think again. It cost me $800 for the lawyer, $367 for the ticket, $200 in gas to get there and back, a blown tire on the way $90, So around $1500 plus the two days in lost wages. I'm really irritated with myself.

Injuries? None. The other driver basically saved my life or we would have both died.

I like to read about it, when a driver gets "WIN". Good for you driver. Now continue on with the safe driving that carried you for 10 years.

My only real accident I was cited for. Three vehicles, 2 semi's and a 4-wheeler. The 4-wheeler and the other semi tried to occupy the same space in front of me. The other semi fled the scene, I locked up the brakes to stop but still rear-ended the 4-wheeler. UNder Texas law, I was automatically cited for Following Too Close. Had to hire an Atty. in Arlington, Tx. Took almost 5 months to get dismissed, as well as I had to make a special trip from Denver to Arlington, with only a days notice (the lawyer called me on Thursday to tell me I had to be in Court on Monday, that would be the Monday before Thanksgiving) only to have the court be rescheduled and cost me a day of work.

The ticket was later dismissed and I was ruled not at fault. IMHO, if you know you weren't at fault, it might be better to fight the ticket instead of taking the compromise.
