I am currently with Roehl Trans. I feel this is a company thats good to start with if not stay with. I'm in the same boat. I need experience.

Let me help with some of this" DO NOT LEAVE UNTIL YOU HAVE 13 MONTHS IN" I can tell you from experience and also talking to other people in my position right now 6 months is not enough and if you quit at 12 they know you just used the other company to get experience and leave. make it more than 12 what ever you do. so find a company you can do that long with. Good Luck and enjoy
MaMa Bear Thanks this. -
Thank you so much camofrawg for your help! I would like to find out more about the different types of runs out there before I decide. I know what a reefer and flat are but am not sure what dry van is. Would otr pay more than regional? These are all questions I need answered. I have a hunch that Schneider will be my first company for some reason, call it a gut instinct. I plan on searching the threads here about the different companies in my area and comparing runs, trucks, and opinions on each.
As far as help, I need a ton of it in all areas of this career. I think a recruiter would be a great place for me to start! I'm 47 with a squeaky clean driving record. I'm also responsible, smart, and will do well for any company that can give me loads to run continuously with some time back at home. I'm a widow with grown kids who are out of the house, so home time isn't something that I need a ton of. I know it will be tough in the beginning and I'm pretty sure I'm ready for it but having tons of info can only help me.
Thanks again! -
Thank you Belleye and okieron for your input also. I can see what you mean okie as far as staying with a company for more than that token year for exp. I will definitely do that if not stay long term with one company. I guess it all depends on how well they treat me whether I stay or not.
Thank you Belleye for recommending Roehl Trans to me. I will check them out and see if they are hiring in my area. How many miles are you getting per week? Are they pretty good to you?
Thank you both in advance for the information! -
I start Evol #1 next week so I still have to learn the job for 5 or so weeks under the helpful assistance of a happy road trainer... I will know more soon and will advise you as to what I am going through...
MaMa Bear Thanks this. -
Thank you! I am very interested in what will be happening to you in your training because that is what I will be going through as well. Good luck and be safe!

I met with a dislocated worker person at the unemployment office today and it looks good that I will get funding to attend school!! I'm really excited about this because to go into debt for over 5 grand would seriously hamper my earning possibilities just starting out. This way I will be able to take my lumps for the first year, meaning low pay and such, and still make my basic bills to keep my house, etc.
I'll keep all of you abreast of the progress I'm making towards starting school hopefully December 6th! -
Congrats mama! I have several coworkers who started with the great punkin (Schneider ) an speak highly of them. I have decided to stick out my situation awhile longer insearch of a better offer. I have two toddlers and get home atleast weekly to reset an the other is avg 2week out. I have heard a lot o pretty. Good about roehl also.

Thank you very much camofrawg! I'm feeling very positive about the prospect of "driving my life away", to quote Eddie Rabbitt...lol
If your situation allows you to be home that often why leave it? If I like Schneider, I will stay with them for sure given they have full benefits. I'm one that when I'm comfortable, I usually stay where I am for the long haul. It will all depend on how I'm treated and if I get consistent loads and miles so I can make money.
Thank you for all of your support in this! -
What does LOH mean? I can't find the definition anywhere on the net. Thanks!
