Unfortunately, I was not. I have lost count of the number of young pilots I've met who have either flown for free in the past or would be willing to do so in the future* if it meant they could log some time. So I am quite serious when I say the wages in professional aviation suck and the pilots have no one to blame but themselves. Its not the only reason I decided to get out of the business, but it was definitely a factor.
*I should clarify that when I say they flew for free, I'm not talking about sharing a ride with a buddy. I'm talking about flying for a revenue generating commercial operation and doing so for $0/hr.Jarhed1964 Thanks this. -
There is a good site for aviation info, if anybody is interested. Hope it is OK to mention, in the interests of getting out more info. Sorry if not allowed: http://www.airlinepilotforums.com/

Wow. Shattered dreams. I am totally speechless. The myth of the highly paid pilot is officially over in my brain housing group. -
I was an Army mechanic for 8 years, Then civilian mechanic for 7 years, welder/metal fab. for 5years. EMT, Firefighter, Landscaper, dumptruck (and I mean DUMP) driver, all at the same time pay in EMS and Fire stinks! Made plastic bottles injection/blow molding. Now I want to drive. Last thing on my list of things to do.

Just read a bunch of threads on that site. How depressing!

Drew, I feel your pain man. I have my BS in Accounting as well, working in my second CPA firm, and I'm surprised I haven't yanked every hair out of my head. If your co-workers don't drive you nuts, the boss will. If he doesn't drive you nuts, the clients will. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to work through this next tax season in order to save up some cash to pay for school next summer.
