I am taking all this into consideration. I already work 12 days before I get 2 off so everyone at home is used to that. The inconsistent miles/pay and health insurance are two major concerns for me. If I knew for sure I could get great miles and decent insurance I would jump right in.
I think what I may do is go to the local tech school and take their 10 week course and then go from there. Maybe find something local for now. I plan on getting my hazmat/tanker endorsement after taking the road test so maybe I can find something local delivering fuel or maybe milk for Mayfield. We'll see. One day at a time. -
Good luck with that my friend. Most reputable hazmat trucking companies will only take applicants with a year or two of experience.

I can get the experience if I am patient. At least I will have the endorsements. Better than not having them at all. I feel it will open more doors.
But what do I know? I am just a newb, right? -
Again very good points and all are true. There are weeks that are better and weeks that are very small. I just had one of those weeks - didnt get but about 2000 miles and the check sucked!!!!!!!! Just finished a great week hitting 3590 miles as of yesterday. So the check should be nice. But the up's and down's are there!
I made a very long list of the Pro's and Con's before I took this job. Did months and months of research and spoke to my family in detail.
If you havent done those simple things - take a step back and re-think it!Skydivedavec and smokies276 Thank this. -

Spanky, Baritone, et.al, in my search for a good company to start with I have found these posts to be extremely useful. No other company seems to avoid the wrath of current and/or former employees like Millis. I submitted my application with them on 9/28 and Alice said I would know by this Fri. I apps with other companies with approvals to start training, but I hope to follow ya'll with Millis. Thanks for letting us know that there are still some caring companies and caring employees.
To Sully and Bear, et al, good luck!Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
Hey Baritone, Not sure if you saw this quote or not it was on the 22nd. Anyway thanks for this thread again. I will be meeting up with trainer tomorrow to begin my education of what it takes to be a productive Millis driver. I would love to see your excel spread sheet. Not the data so much but the columns and info you track. I could see myself using it . I am good with using excel but don't know if I could build the database. Let me know if you'd be willing to share. Thanks Again for all you've contributed to my career choice.
