I am considering getting into driving. The thing is, I don't have the money for truck driving school. Are there any companies that will pay for school and take it out of your pay? If so, are these companies that would be good to drive for? Any advice is much appreciated.
Do any companies advance for school?

Quite a few of them do that but then you're locked into working for them for a period of time, which can be good and bad...
We too were hurting for cash to pay for the school and were not eligible for unemployment...However, the unemployment office had a career center type of place in it which hooked me up thru WIA(Workforce Improvement Act) and they will be paying for all of my schooling and I don't have to pay it back!!!!...I'd check there to see if you qualify...ZakD Thanks this. -
For the advice, I can use it

That is such a rumor! You are not conscrpted to work for any company if you take their training. However, if you take the training, and do not hire on with that company, you are expected to pay for the training.
You have the option to leave and are not "locked" into any specific company. Sheesh! I wish people would stop spreading this rumor! Trucking companies are not slave owners! -

He was talking about SCHOOL, not training... -
Swift, Driver Solutions/P.A.M/ USA Truck, Stevens, Werner, CRST, Prime, A few others. I have looked into many. I still am. Do you research. I would stay away from Werner though. They have many many Better Buisness Reports. I am myself leaning to Driver Solutions. USA, or PAM will prehire you and send you to Driver Solutions c-1 school. You will get your permit, and CDL's at the school, and will just have to transfer them back. Here is the thing. You have to stay with that company for 1 year for them to fully pay for your school. If you do not you OWE the school a very large amount of cash. If you go this route like me, we will have to stick it out with a not so great company to work for. 1 Year is not so bad for OTR driving, then that will open many many doors. 1 Year of EXP, then onto the better jobs. Plus if you stay safe with 1 year of OTR per say with the bottom feeders as they call them like USA Truck. The company you apply for will hire you with a great look on you. You survived the 1 year of hell as some have called it. I have talked to many people that has worked for them, and have put there one year in and the bailed, and got a better job, with way better cash. 60-100K pr year. So its what you make of it.

So was she.
You can attend a company's school and then leave instead of honoring the contract. You WILL however have to pay for that schooling though.
Some of the places may decide not to hire you after their schooling and then you're stuck with owing them for training, but you have your cdl and can go look for a job elsewhere.ZakD Thanks this. -
The only one in Sacramento that will train for free is FOODLINK at the old army depot.
ZakD Thanks this.
