ok, people. i just got the newest OOIDA magazine. it reports on CSA2010.
in part, here is a brief excerpt:
"Currently, the DSMS results are being used strictly as an investigative tool for law enforcement and are not available to carriers, drivers, or the public"
now, you can STILL BE FIRED if you have "too many points"..........RIGHT NOW...........
also, i should point out, at least 2 drivers have "warnings"......NOT ACTUAL TICKETS........and those warnings are ON FILE.......!!!!!!! this counts against you as well people..........!!! the points assessed not only for actual tickets, but WARNINGS too.............!!!!!!!!!!
so, we all better be "en guard" from now on. just becasue you received a drivers inspection or truck inspection, and get a "simple warning"......we are screwed. my opinion, (sarcastic one at that) make it worth it to get a REAL ticket instead. at least now, you earned those points for getting screwed. and as before, ALL points stay with the driver for 36 months, warning or real.
gotta love 'em there in DC..........huh...........????

this is true, the points reduce each year, highest points the first year, (its the points * 3), then *2 the second year, ETC., If you pull a flat bed, then pucker up, you dont have a chance
-
yeah, the "one guy" had a loose strap, but it was the "excess" not what was holding the load, the cop pulled him over, told him about it, driver took care of it (simple wrapping it up) driver still got a "warning ticket". points against him now.
-
Why? You ain't gonna get kissed.
-
He is referring to the fact that load securement issues all have 10 points attached.
So a worn strap, even if it is extra on the load and he was strapped at 150% of what was needed, it is still an OOS violation. And carries 10 points.
People need to remember though. Points do not cross basics.
Points in each basic are totally different. So just going by a total number of points is basically pointless. -
you can go on fmsca a look at your points now. we do it when hiring a new driver. cost $10.
-
You can also do it for free under the freedom if information act.
But I have not heard of anyone trying to get it this way actually receiving the info yet, and some sent the form in the week the PSP came out.
The FMCSA is dropping the ball on that one, or just has an unwritten contract with the contractor that gets the money to not reply for 6 months on requests.
I have not bothered to check mine yet. I will ask my company what it says at some point. Since they have the info as my employer anyway.
I had 4 inspections in the past 3 years. No warnings or violations. So it should be clear accept the inspections. All of those were while running flatbed. -
I'd say the DOT will be gun ho in near future inspections to compile more data.
-
They have been doing that on company's they do not have enough data on for a while now.
It will almost be better when they actually swap to that system, since at that point the DOT will have them mostly only inspecting trucks that are with company's with a low score.
That is one reason they wanted the program, since they have limited resources they wanted to use them checking bad company's and not the good ones.
Yes they will continue to inspect the others, but not at the rate they are now.
