if you think England is not making money on the freight we haul your sadly mistaken.
they pay an ic .90 - 1.53 a mile depending on the length of haul. i guarantee they are getting double that or close to it.

and understandably so, they have a customer base and they supply the trailer.

I never made the implication that they weren't. Any company that doesn't wouldn't last long.
    Consider this:
England has a program that makes it possible for anyone that wants to, and has the work ethic, to make some good money.
They have a garage that does not cost nearly as much as the buffoons at the truck stops. (not all, but some are definitely that!)
I can't beat the price on the tires, and I have some #### good connections back home, for example.
They provide the trailer at a decent price, which is the variable milage payment as far as i'm concerned. Other places can charge up to a half of what you make. I know this because I've leased and hired out to brokers before, and lost my ###. I like what I do, I work my ### off and try to be one of the guys they can come to when things get tight, and I like being paid for it. I really like the fact that the pay is PERFORMANCE BASED. If I don't do good, they will look somewhere else to get the load moved, just look at the DAT board sometime. You see the occasional England load up there when I know full well there are guys waiting for one down at the truckstop.
They have everything I need in Salt Lake City. I've been self employed before, and I've seen enough to know that the lowest bidder is not always the best guy for the job. Shuttles crash, bridges collapse, roads fall apart. All built by the lowest bidder.
I'm not going to say that they are the best company in the world, but after having been here for over a year, I'm pretty certain they are not the worst. I've had my share of headaches, but as the old saw goes, to make an omelet, some eggs have to be broken.
I just got my truck back after sitting in limbo for a week while it was having major issues with wiring. Seems all those miles I've been racking up are having an effect on the truck. I seem to be wearing it out! At some 5000 mi per week, they might be right.
Yea there were no sheets on the beds, no pillows. There were towels and showers, like a truckstop. The bed didn't bounce.
It was kinda like being in the sleeper of a parked truck....
If you can't hack the school, I doubt you could hack the trucker's life.
This is not a business for whiners. I've seen plenty of all sides, running a biz and owning a biz and being an employee.
I'm making money, more than enough. Hell, I might by me a rig next year when my lease is up and have the #### thing do 80! I could almost double my income!!!

I'm not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. I'll curry it and feed it and make it look good. It can pull a wagon and that's all I need it to do!

Find something good to yap about, like the construction that is #### near complete in Nebraska on I80........
    Wheeee!

Rolling down I80.....smooth! (no, I'm not driving!)

once again jabberjaws, somebody tells how well they are doing and you call bs.

do you actually think just because you didn't do that well that it is not possible to make a good living at CR England ?

I just looked at my settlement to see my averages and my YTD WEEKLY is $1366.00
my 4 wk avg is 1805.00
    MY TOTAL INCOME IS $46465.00
    and that's income

you want to see what my total revenue is before everything??

    my gross YTD $131204.00
    MY YTD WEEKLY IS $3859.00
MY 4 WEEK AVG IS $4541.00

now I'm not saying it's great but I'm happy. and it only gets better.

Don't doubt your numbers or Mainframes ... I ran with my son as his phase 2 student and made simliar numbers ... the problem with CRE is the variable milage charge ...

As you and Mainframe - and I have friends still at CRE - you can make money there. But you have to either be a trainer or if you find a good student, keep them on as a company driver - you pay at the student rate while they get their company raises and bonuses. But still you are paying the VM.

The variable milage charge was the primary reason that I didn't stay with England. Secondary is the company is organizationally dysfunctional.

before you go and pick on a "dysfunctional" company that you can actually make some money at despite the obstacles, may i direct your attention to the s o b that was paying his laborers that could only operate a shovel more than me, when he screamed at my face and told everyone else what a great guy i was behind my back while he was screwing me out of some 1200 a week from prevailing wage work while i was freezing my worm off on a D8 open cab dozer in 12 degree weather....

i know how to work my rear off, and i'm making more money than i ever have in my life. bite the #### bullet and get over it. i don't meet adversity with a sniffle, i hit it with a blade, and bull my way through it. i found a fourmula that works here, so if i do ever wind up getting a different job, i'll do a lot better in the money department.

Finally something nice and positive about this corporation. Its refreshing that there are real people out there making a killing, just doing some hard work.

As a noob, I have one question that i have not seen answered on this board about CRE. how do you get home on hometime? Bobtail, and pay your own fuel, or do you have a friend or family mamber pick you up? Also I was wondering about terminal locations. I'm on the I-84 corridor here in CT. also, not too far south of MA-90 or MA-20

usually you try to get close to home with a load and you need to have a place to park a truck and trailer. you can bobtail home...but it's always best to be ready to roll when you come outa home time. you don't want to have to go find a mt trl and then get it loaded.
if you are an ic then all fuel is on you anyways but as a company driver they don't like you to bob tail or dead head to far.

I'm curious (and I'm not trying to fan the flames or anything, I did CRE's lease program from 1998-2000) but you posted these numbers at the end of Aug. I not doubting the numbers, I just wondering how often you get home? 131k gross in eight months is impressive. it just doesn't seam like there is any possible way to have any meaningful home time (or any time other than driving for that matter).

Hi, I would like to comment on some of what has been said in this form.
I will be leaving for CRE's driver school in a few weeks and though I had not seen this form before I said I would go attend their class, I am not sure if I would change my mind; even if is is worse than what has been said and no one is exaggerating. No other truck company will hire me. While some of my difficulties might be due the state I am from I think it is more to due with the fact that 3yrs ago I got a careless driving. This has led to not only the loss of work but, because of where I live, no work for over 2yrs. Finally my MRV is clean and CRE is the only who will hire me. So this is the reason I am going with them. And I should amend my statement to say CRE has said they will hire me upon successful completion of the school. I guess I owe a different company the money for the school. I am desperate for a job and so even if CRE is the devils own kin, I am suspecting that for the next year at least I am with them. If anyone knows of a company that hires MI and will take a careless 3+yo driver I am all ears.
Some questions though: First, is CRE really going to not hire me if I do not do the lease program? I will admit that this has me scared. My financial situation is such that I do not think I can afford the lease program.
Next, explain the $1.25 vs rate(??) for fuel? I am confused.
I used to drive cab, I know the $.14 mile rate thing for those who lease. My advice is to buy the KY and hand it to them as you bend over. They are too cheep to buy it for you.
What is it with not hiring certain states? Is there some law or something? Is the school that CRE is sending me to certified or is it just something that CRE uses to suck more money out of potential employes? I ask this becouse I am wondering how long I will be required to work for CRE after taking their course?
I just thought I would throw in my $.02 in and hopefully people will respond.
