Good for you Knew B... and here I set just a short 18 miles away from that very warehouse you are picking up at. Dispatch at times and communications at stevens is dead. Repower requests have fallen on deaf ears again too.

 

Are you referring to the TND 500 and 700???

 

I am going to the Stevens Training on Oct. 18th. I have a CDL, just been off the road to long and now required to get a refresher that I couldn't afford. Stevens said come on down, but you need to go through the whole program. I'm ok with that. I only had a few months experiance anyway.

My real question is, the Stevens site brags about all of its trucks having point to point spoken directions via gps. Is this true? How do you like it. I can read the good old truckers atlas, but I like the idea of GPS helping me out in the final directions to where I need to go.

Oh, if anyone wants a running report of how an old fart 56, does in training with all the younguns, let me know. Id be glad to post here or wherever the apporpriate place is. Just tell me.

 

Stopped at the Petro in York NE tonight. Weird thing: another Stevens truck is parked here. He's pulling the same trailer that I dropped off yesterday at ProLogis in Morris lol. Small world.

 

Yes, you can receive directions over the Qualcom. This is not a GPS as in a visual thing. It's called Maptuit and simply gives you line by line directions to the location from where ever you are. Like most things, it isn't perfect, but does a pretty darn good job.

AS for your exciting adventures with the children, go ahead and post here. And as for being an old fart...child...you are younger than me.

 

Yes. If you do the map update, be sure you have a wideband connection. Otherwise, it could take forever and most probably will time out.
The other update is for the system and can be done with an air card or local connection.

I was getting almost no response from my driver manager for the past 2 weeks about my low miles, and setting all the time. His response, sit tight, I am working on it.
Friday Morning I call Cat, and tell her my concerns. She looks up my last 90 days, and says what happened? I do not know...She says she will look into it.

2 hours later, I get a phone call, where am I at exactly so another truck can bring me his load that delivers to Pittsburg area Saturday Morning. At noon I am rolling, and Have a preplan to pick up in Parkersburg WV sunday morning. Hopefully it will continue like it was before..

So tonight I am 10 miles away from my pick up.

 

Got dispatched out of Ontario to L.A, Bakersfield(5hrs) Arvin, Mc Farland(5hrs)
and Madera???? I have lost an entire day of driving. called ahead to all drops but, none had appointment times except the 1st stop and they were late too!

I kept as much time on my 14 as possible and am still getting nowhere.

Produce load is going to be at least 8-10 hrs late going to Seattle.
Was this poor planning by dispatch can't think of much I could have done different.

 

Evening everybody. Didn't mean to start a ruckus regarding Astoria. The scoop about the move came from an Astoria employee by the way.

Anyway....had some scary fun driving down the east coast during last weeks monsoon. Humped some hills in West Virgina. Went through Fancy Gap but since I was going south to north it did not count as a mountain crossing but it was a good warm up.

After dropping off the Astoria load in Richmond, went to Tar Heel, NC and picked up some hog meat. Took it to Miluawkee. Cudaha? I can't spell so sorry about that...anyway...they have a company store. Opens at 1300 and stays open for a couple of hours. Next time you are there go in and stock up on some fine pork products, all at cost. Needless to say, me and trainer will be living high on the hog for a while . Sorry about that.

Not sure what trainer would say but driving skills are improving. Drove just under 400 miles today. Backing is improving so feeling better about that. Just starting 3rd week so plenty of time to sharpen up.

For those new guys/gals coming to Stevens I want to tell you that I am very pleased with my trainer and the whole experience in genteral. Turns out he was a jar head as was I so we on the same page.....his page.

On our way from Ottowa, Il to Washington, DC. Really thought we were going to west so I can get my mountains done this week. Next week for sure.
