12,320 on steers....

I went to 11R24.5 as I was always right around the limit for the low pros. But I have never been checked.

 

Beating the slider pins causes problems??? What, are you using a jackhammer or something?

I carry a 4 pound hammer for that specific purpose, as do many drivers for Swift. There are trailers in the fleet over 10 years old and I have never seen a mushroomed slider pin. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a tap-tap to encourage a stubborn pin...or fifth-wheel lock, although that has never been an issue for me.

 

99% of my loads bring my steers to at least 12,300. With full tanks many of my loads scale my steers out at 12,600. I have a stationary fithwheel. I do all 48 & Canada & have never had any problems with scales even when I'm grossing just a few hundred pounds under 80,000.

 

How can gps know your fuel mileage... buy a pencil

 

Good advise shifting as much weight to Tandems as legal.
I dont recall indiana being a 12,000 pound steer state.
spray the fifth wheel with some lube where they lock to chasis.
Mine always spung loose going backwards first, then pull forwards.
dolly down,drop the bags.
still no good, bring to shop.

 

I have a fixed 5th wheel and a battery operated APU (NITE) and I am always at least 12500, have been as high as 12800. I have never been stopped or questioned about my steer weight as long as I am not over gross. Ran a load last week to St. Joseph, MO at 79890 with full fuel load with no problems.

 

Common DishSoap = best thing for sliding your 5th wheel.

 

In a situation like this, you may want to consider the amount of fuel in your tanks. At 7 pounds per gallon . . . Do the math! If your tanks sit closer to the steers than the drives, it should. Hauling coast to coast, I get these loads that test the limit all the time. Sometimes, I run and don't put more than 75 gallons at a time. It's b.s. But it works!
File for future reference 'cause nobody wants to dump 50 gallons of fuel!
