As time passes, convoys are a thing of the past with new drivers too much in a hurry with the foot on the floor thing.
Convoys have many benefits to include:
One of my favorite times trucking was coming out of AR on I-30 into TX. Five of us were running together. By the time we got to Greenville, TX, our convoy was over 5 miles long. Eastbound said it was the prettiest site they ever seen as nightfall fell on us. We all carried on the CB and had a grand ol' time. No idiots around. It was funny when we got in a one lane construction zone and trapped behind a 4wheeler pulling a U-haul trailer doing about 20 mph. The constrution zone was 13 miles long and we all decided to hit the air horn on the 4wheeler when we come out of the construction. It didn't take many trucks when we come out of the constrution to sound their horn and the poor 4wheeler run off into the shoulder scared out of their wits, lol. The bears could do nothing but look at us. I'm sure they were amazed too. I could of run all night this way, but it was sad when we started breaking up in the Dallas area. Big convoys are fun.
- A grouping of trucks are more aerodynamic.
- Four wheelers tend to stay away from you which means less conflicts and stress.
- A group of trucks with great conversation and comradery.
- Time and miles pass by quicker. You get in a good convoy, you don't want to leave.
- None of this drag racing and get out of my way stuff.

I see big convoys all the time. 65 MPH and unable to pass each other.
blackw900, outerspacehillbilly, RenegadeTrucker and 2 others Thank this. -
Oh but they sure try. 65.5 mph truck trying to overtake a 65mph truck for 5 miles and then they wonder why no one will let them out when they really need to.
Do I need a truck that will do ~120mph no, do I have one? YES, Pass like your robbing a bank, get out and around without anyone else knowing u were there!MassHole Thanks this. -
Wish they actually did that though. Instead dragrace for miles not one of them budging
-
Unfortunately they are illegal.
-
Could you please cite the law on that?
-
What is illegal?
-
I googled the term.....Maybe it's an urban legend.....Convoy on and hammer down......
-
Those slow azzedhatted CRE and Swift rigs running up Vail should be illegal.....
-
Being someone who is never in favor of more laws....I would prefer some good old frontier justice for those companies!
