thanks
but i'm still undecided
the only reason i'm saying this is .i'v recently come into some moneys..and this is the rout i'm takeing....i know the truck..has a freash rebuild.new clutch...needs 6 drive tires.....total cost $15,000...been looking at flats or steps myself.....problibly start with a spread flat...reason being cheap (low start up cost)....brings me to $25,000.....now your authy if you go thru oodia.$800 .00 then you need tags $1600, your 2290 .$550.00.. s-corp $150.00.....now rigging...chains ,binders, straps cornner guardsruffly $1500.00 at least 2 steel tarps 16x26 $236.00x2.....now lets look at running money.....fuel, at $3.00 if you avarage 2500 miles a week ...thats 10,000 miles a mth devided by 6 miles to the gal, thats 1666 x $3.00 a gal, thats $5000 in fuel alone....intill your settlements start comeing in ...what i'v just broken down will cost you $29,992......leaveing you a little more than $10,000 incase of breakedowns,,or tires or or or ..my point being ..why have the payment...it's yours free and clear.... and something to remember...it's a truck ...it's like a women.....remember the old saying if it's got wheels or bewbees on it your gona have problems with it.......if you spend $35,000 on a truck and have payments...it dont leave a hole lot a wiggle room for nothing...........mabey that will help your desission...... it dont have to be big and shinny to make money .....like i said this is just a opinion......and the way i'm chooseing to go.....i personaly dont like owing anyone.....

I always look at a used truck as someone elses troubles, but its personal. With $20000.00 down and 20 in the bank you can buy a new tractor. You have a 500,000 mile warranty and you need $10,000 a year for insurance. Fuel is $3/gal and you get 6 mpg. Trucking is the most expensive business you can go into and the best way to do it is run team, run 1000 mi/day and take a few days off a month for family.

Yeah and brand new trucks are sitting in the shop 3 day's out of five, because, no one knows how to diagnos ir fix them, just visit the maint section. it is full of nre truck problems. I may be one of the exceptions, but I paid $15,000 cask for my truck & $ 9500 cash for my trailer over 11 years ago & I am still using both. buying a used truck or car or buying a used home is not always buying some one els'es troubles.dino6960 Thanks this.

I'm sorry that my post was taken as a joke. Wasn't trying to come across that way. I was simply trying to make a point that cash is a better negotiation tool than a trade-in." OPTIMUS PRIME " Thanks this. -
mr prime the money i was waitng on has come in....i did alittle digging....instead of that kw i talked about for $15,000...i found a 1998 379 pete, fairly new rebuilt 470 detroit.13 spd, the truck has had alot of new parts put on,,,,,, new u-jionts on the front and rear shafts yokes, allnew brakes and drums, new air bags, new water pump, alternator,a/c clutch and compressor.two new bridgestone steers, drives are at 75%, truck body in good ashape, new exshaust,......interior in good shape ,headache rack ,chains ,binders and tarps.......reasons for the indevidual to sell ....wife gave him a choice...the truck or her????? grand total for truck............$11,500....if that truck last me two years wih no major problems..i got my money out of it and then some......and knowing me..ill just dump another engine in when this one gets tired........i'm now working on a trailer
nlk Thanks this. -
If any wife/significant other gives anyone a choice between a trucking career and her, take the career. Guaranteed that will only be the first in a long line of demands and ultimatums.

Personally I would buy a $20k truck for $12 grand tops and buy a good used dry van for $5k.
Buy a new truck? You might as well fill out your bankruptcy papers ahead of time to save you the headache.MackDaddyMark and dino6960 Thank this. -

I'm not trying to insult anyone with their choices of trucks...I'm looking at it from a buisness stand point...when i was a superentendant building multi million dollar road jobs ..the buisness modles and higher ups would tell us......Low cost ,high production....so i am applying the same thery here.....i cant see dumping big bucks in to a truck thats only gona last so long.....maint is a big issue!!!!! alot of what can go wrong i can do myself.. so why pay somebody $150 a hour to do something you can.....what is it gona cost you the parts , time, and some gojo and a shower....and keps the $$$$ in your pocket...now as far as major work i would have to have it done ...for two reasons..1) lack of proper tool ...2) and lack of internal knowedge of a diesel motor.... not saying i cant..i just have never tryed or have had someone teach me....3) the idea of a $1200 payment
