I am sure every driver who has experience will say anything you can do to relieve stress is well worth it.

Exactly! Pressure relief is the name of the game in any profession and way of life I'm finding. I'm watching the Vince the Trucker episodes on YouTube now to get an idea of what his life is like. So far in episodes 1 - 4 it looks pretty standard and he isn't driving too many miles. My boyfriend is an OTR and he drives up to 700 miles a day some days. That will be pushing it for me but I'll take the miles I can get.

Not to throw a wrench into the parade here, but you stated earlier you had medical issues but you could "drive ok". There is a bit more to the job than just driving. Would you be able to crank landing gear down when its almost frozen? Can you climb in and out the trailer? Can you lift the hood to check your oil? Can you lift tire chains and chain up if need be? Just something to think about.
MaMa Bear Thanks this. -
Absolutely I can do all of that! The medical issues are more specifically that I have systemic lupus and need to take meds to keep my immune system at bay. My being physical on the job isn't the issue at all.
Thank you vegasdude for bringing that up to me. I think I will start working out just in case.
p.s. My truck driver boyfriend also has some homemade tools to help me with those tasks also that he is willing to give me when I graduate school. I am looking for another person to team drive with though. I'm hoping my boyfriend will come around to that idea soon. lol -
I'm looking at a company and they advertise "Additional $.05 per loaded mile on pad wrap and rolling stock load". What does this mean?
Also, I'm making a list of little odds and ends to take with me in the truck for creature comforts and little tools that I will need. One thing that I'm curious about from the lady truckers out there is what brand of wet wipes do you use in between showers to keep yourself clean and fresh? I mean whole body and not just "that" area.
Thank you all for any input you may give! -
Would doctor prescribed narcotics disqualify me from passing my DOT physical? Do any of you use these drugs and still qualify to drive? Please I need this info pretty quickly.
-
I would recomend talking to a Doctor that does DOT physicals and or the company you are going to work for. I have read posts on here where people have passed the DOT but the company doesn't allow certain meds.
Hope this helps and good luck to ya!MaMa Bear Thanks this. -
I just got a note from my primary doctor and she informed me that the drugs I'm on will disqualify me to drive. So I'm researching different herbal remedies to try to control my pain so I can get off of these drugs.
-
Thank you Wanna Drive, I'm checking with my doctor to find out what I need to do to qualify. The herbal remedies look promising too.

After having had a conversation with my pain doc, here is the plan. She is confident that I can withdraw from the drugs and have a clean test by December 1st. After that I will be using a combination of a prescription anti-inflammatories, Sam-E supplement, and heat to keep the pain in my knees at bay. Please wish me good luck because I think I'm going to need it.
