Well lets add to the confusion over the 12,000lb steer limit a little more.
I received a "warning" ticket at a scale house on US30 in Illinois( right next to indiana border) south of chicago... I was 12,720 on my steers... Was able to shift the weight easily enough so she issued just a warning(since id never received a warning before, woulda been a fineable offense had I already received a warning before EVEN if i could have shifted the weight...) Still goes against my companies "safe stat," I told her WTF its my fault, not the companies, and she was nice enough to tell me she would gladly give me the fineable ticket too so it COULD go on against me....

Here's the confusing part... I had fueled at the TA in Morris Illinois(R-Place restaurant, they are just putting in new pumps!! FINALLY, btw, dont go there until all the construction is done... Nah, skip it altogether as the fuel price was 17cents higher than Walcott, IAs TA earlier that morning...
Anyways!!!! My initial scale on the load was 12,040 on steers well before I took on fuel... So I had a good enough feeling filling the tank was going to put me a few hundred pounds over... Down the road I go, I get to the scale eastbound I80 around tinley park area.... not 40 miles from fueling... I cross scale without incident.... Away I go, get on 394 Southbound(delivering to Beecher, Illinois) And oh my!! Another Scale ALREADY?? Anyhow, I get off the exit and soon as I scale there, Im pulled in................................... I explain to the Officer that I just freakin scaled on 80.. Her response: Your load probably shifted in the last 25 miles or so........ WTF!WTF! Is she clueless?? I came outta humboldt IA, passed a couple scales on the journey, and now in the last 14 miles of my route, the #### load wants to shift..... She needs a cluse!!

That warning you received will go down against you on your csa 2010 driver score, and your company takes a hit also.

my internet access is limited right now and Im only around once every few days... But I suppose I need more info on this csa score 2010 and exactly how this affects my company...... I spoke with my dispatch(company owners,) about this warning and they didnt get upset, but there is a posting on the board inside terminal that states Ill lose the penny per mile bonus if I get anything that goes against the safe stat.... SIGH

i had wanted to further expand on my last post, but I got booted from the net.. it posted what I wrote anyways.. Ill be back to give more info when I can.

my experience has been that dot will allow up to 1000 pounds over for allowance for fuel...............but they dont have to, I usually it the scales 300 or 400 over on my steers as I am full on the fuel and never had any troubles,of course my gross is always on the low side......knock on wood

Ummmm that would be 20K on 4 tires, not a set of 2 steer tires.

They're talking about a single tandem, 34K is for tandem duals = 8 tires...

Ohio allows 20k on your steering (permit) as long as you have the wide float tires. It's all based on your tire width they don't care about axle capacity. (yes you can legally put 20k on a 12k axle)

So I can't see as to why you couldn't run 13k on your steering as long as you had the correct tires and were under gross.

If you aren't maxing out at 80K,

    something isn't right.

It is NOT that hard to scale out legally. !!!!

Are they loading you properly ???
