With all the threads around, I was wondering on your thoughts of your (American) postal company; how they treat drivers and so-on so-forth.

I was thinking if I could drive around america, that maybe signing up to USPS that it would give me a great way of taking some holiday photos (Well, while driving of course)

so yes, what are your thoughts guy's... oh, and girl's.:biggrin_255:

I know a driver who works for the Post Office,he's been there many years and enjoys it.
his runs are very short, from one postal hub to another, less than 100 miles..He works an 8 hour day.

I thought that the usps contracted other companies for their deliverys? Except for the local routes.

A lot of the USPS gets hauled by other companies. There are some trucks belonging to the USPS but not many.

The above comments are correct, the majority of mail being hauled is done by contractors. Local post offices and businesses are still being serviced by USPS employees-at least here in Minneapolis/St. Paul. for the time being. Most of the mail contractors I know run relay, meaning driver A will take a load from Mpls to Fargo, swap trailers with driver b and return to Mpls. I don’t know of any who travel the U.S., it could happen, I just don’t know of any. On the plus side, you’re seldom pulled into weigh stations and told to go around back if you’re hauling mail.

Yes, most are hauled by the lowest bidder. The savings are passed on to the driver. :)
