If we in the USA trucking industry had demanded new updated ADB this might not have happened.

Yes. As a trainer. All miles the truck runs are paid. Dedicated Account. A solo driver can make a million in 7 years.
-
Yes I have, same rules apply. Get in the right gear and take it slow. If you are in a hurry, it will cost you. I have seen WAY to many drivers put $$$ in front of Safety. Is the extra few minutes worth your life, or someone elses?
I'm not here to argue about it guys. It is what it is. Jake or No Jake, there is still no excuse for burning up the brakes. If you do not know how to properly go down a mountain, get the help you need, it will save lives, period.MrMustard Thanks this. -
What in the HELL was a "trainee" doing driving a different truck from the "trainer?"
Hey, those guys from Kingman are GOOD!
The problem with disc brakes is that the rotors will warp all to hell once they have gotten hot. Then you get brake chatter until they are replaced. I've seen this in many cars, but have no idea how it would be with an air brake system.

I used to run up and down UT 14 on Cedar Mountain, east of Cedar City, and UT 143 through Parowan Canyon with a dump and pup and no jake on it. i HATED that! -
Did you ever put your foot on the brakes ? LOL
-
If you are talking about coming off the mountain, I sure did. You would wind up over-revving the engine if you didn't. There wasn't a gear on that truck low enough to hold it back, even creeping down.
-
I knew you had to. I was just playing around because of what a previous poster said. " If you have to use your brakes you're either in an emergency or you don't belong behind the wheel of a truck."
I thought that statement was a bit extreme. -
What class 8 truck manufactured in the last 25 years doesn't have a Jake?
If it don't work than that's a whole 'nother thing. -
There are still quite a few Jake-less trucks out there. In the '90s, I amazed a junior co-driver who frequently smoked my brakes by taking Wolf Creek Pass with a full gross load of soda syrup, then placing my hand on a brake drum after stopping at the bottom.
All brakes do is convert the energy of motion to heat. Reduce speed and/or weight and you greatly reduce the heat generated. I went down at the posted 11mph recommended speed.
I'd still rather have a Jake equipped truck, though.Independent Thanks this.
