You as a driver have to check the vehicle's condition, not only the required lights, tires etc, but ensure the registration and insurance are in fact good. I see this almost every day, and more so the last year or so. The economy sucks and the first thing these companies are doing is letting the registration and insurance lapse. Why? Because they may be able to sneak by for 3, 6 or 9 months. In the last three weeks I have stopped and ticketed 5 driver's that have obsecured their registration plates with either mud, roofing tar or grease. Why do they do this, plain and simple, run through the tolls without paying and making it hard to determine the vehicle's owner. Red light cameras as well. The unfortunate thing is the company leaves the driver to hold the bag, knowing full well the crap they are doing. Nothing makes me happier than when it's a local company and I pay the owner a visit and hook him up with some coupons. Nothing like seeing the boss face when I walk in the door and drop some memory makers in his lap. The best is when there is prosepective customers in the business and they watch the show. :biggrin_255:

If the company can't afford to pay for tags,...I would worry about my paycheck,....

Don't you carry an OWNER RESPONSIBILTY form the owner fills out and you carry it in your truck so incase like this or any other mechanical voilations you miss, it wont go against you and ON YOUR MVR, you don't sign the citation and it goes DIRECTLY to the owner. You can pick up the form at mostly at any DOT weight stations, Well at least in California

That could be a California thing. I can't write a ticket to the company. It has to go to the driver. I can issue it to the owner if they are on scene or I can get a warrant for the owner, but it has to be in the owner's name, not listed to the company.

It's been more than a few years but the last time I talked to a CA officer, if it was a CA registered vehicle he could write it to the owner, otherwise it was the driver. When I worked in LA, we cited the driver regardless.

    Best regards

Take it to a scale and let the DOT put that nice orange OUT OF SERVICE sticker on the windshield. I bet the owner gets it taken care very quickly...

awwww, but the driver will still be the one holding the ticket. Why? Well, how did the illegal truck get to the scale house? It is best to say NO & refuse to operate equipment that is not safe or legal.

    Injun Thanks this.
