I just recently graduated from cdl school in FL, and I want to work for a trucking company in WI. That co. tells me I have to change my license to their state. If this is true, why? :biggrin_2556:

Your CDL is for the state you live in. It must have your current address on it.

So is it common that most truckers reside in one state but work for a company in another state?

Some companies do this for insurance and tax reasons. Usually it's a smaller compaany, although even larger companies have hiring areas.

Thank you, that's a relief. Just can't figure why they said that to me.

Doesn't hurt to ask them why and see what they say

Your drivers license MUST be from the state you reside in. I've heard some companies require you to get your learners permit from the state you are being trained in, then after you get your CDL from that state, you then switch it back to your home state.
