Ok i fell in love with a canadian woman..Not sure how it happened..She caught me off gaurd and put a spell on me..Now we are in a pickle. She wants to drive and I want her to drive and we work as a team either in Canada or the US. She has no experience and no cdl. She can get training in Canada and weve looked into it and thats an angle. We are mostly approaching this with very little knowlege or idea which direction is most reasonable. ANyone who has done this and has some insight of the pros and cons could give some feed back. I am still a rooky myself with just 3yrs under my belt. Ive called a couple american companies that cross the border but they dont hire canadian. I am wondering if i should just go to canada and try and get on there and become a canadian. :biggrin_25510:

it would be a lot easier for you to become a canadian than the other way around--i am still stuck in that process
it gets kind of tricky when you have both nationalities in truck driving--comes up as cabbotage---but once --say you become canadian--and still have us citizenship--you are kind of free to do whatever--why not just take her in the truck with you rather than team?
on the plus side as a cdn company driver---generally the pay is higher
which ever way you go--it is going to cost $$$$ you can figure at least 3 thousand
it would be best if you check it out on computer--there are so many different ways of doing it--and it will give you the pros and cons

Have you asked your company if they will let you train her?

They may be willing if it means they get a team out of the deal. You never know until you ask.

liberty linehaul has a us division out of cali and a canadian division as well-- but you would still run into the problem of interstating if you pick and deliver in the same country---but you might be ok if you just do cross border runs back and forth--it might be a good idea to check with them

I may be misunderstanding a wee bit....

I am canadian, my husband american...difference is I don't want to drive...

My suggestion would be that you guys will have to pick where you want to "live". Canada or US. That will include the big question are you guys sure that you are serious. The only way that you will be able to run team is in one or the other country. If an American company is willing to hire her, she can get a work Visa and then will have to get an AMerican CDL...if you want to drive with her in Canada and find a company willing to hire you, you can get a work Visa and then an Canadian AZ licence....

I have a feeling, though, that either way she will have to train with someone else before you guys can run team...

Good Luck! I know all about the spell that Canadian Women can have!! LOL just kiddin!
