Well, in the long run, the CDL Mills are using you. Why? Because you'll end up making them much more money by having to pay for your training in small increments. At least with a non-company trucking school, you pay but the school doesn't survive unless they have students succeed. Plus the one down the street doesn't take in 50 people a week. They're small and family owned and have been doing it a long time. I met one of their instructors, told him I need someone patient and felt pretty good talking to him about it. My Prime instructor was telling me by the 3rd day out I should have had my shifting down pat even though I never used a stick before. I know not every instructor at every company is like that, but my faith with these big companies as far as instructors go is very fragile.
What little choices...

You can't live by that attitude. In that case, college students are being used, most workers are being used such as myself, etc. If you want to earn something you will have to work towards it. But aren't we all being used? Don't let that thinking hold you back towards your goals. Go out there with a winning attitude instead!

My trucking school cost 7 grand or so, I went through CDI/TDI in Murfreesboro, TN.
Decided I didn't like being in debt, and paid it off in about 6 months with swifts help. Swift kept throwing that 50 bucks a week into my check for the next year. I figure I came out ahead. -
I gotta say good luck to you. Their are a few small companies that will train. I suggest after you get done with school, get in your car make the rounds. Get the phone book out and do that, and make calls to. You will be surprised by what you might find.
