When I first heard of the duck walk test which will take place at orientation, I had visions of Chuck Berry wielding his guitar across a stage.
Sorry, this has probably been answered before, if it has I cannot find it. My apology if it has.
Can someone here please explain to me exactly what the duck walk entails? I am guessing it happens under a trailer. How many steps is it? Is it forward and backwards, maybe from one side of the trailer to the other?
And, far as the physical capabilities test goes, are there pushups involved? Is it simply lifting 50 pounds? Exactly what is that please?
Thank you in advance for your reply!

With the duck walk, you start out by squatting. While remaining in the squat position, you try to walk. This is done to show the examiner that you have no severe back and joint problems.
I never had to do pushups, but I had to repeatedly lift and lower a basket filled with 50lbs of material over my head. For my physical, there were also heel tests and stepping on and off a set of steps for 3 mins straight. Mostly to assess heart rate, blood pressure, physical strength, and joint and muscle health. I had a pretty thorough exam for 1 hour when I was going through orientation at Knight.mysticguido, basstime54, Everett and 1 other person Thank this. -
I would like to know also. What is everything They have You Do?
basstime54 Thanks this. -
all of this for a job where you will be sitting for several hours a day/night.......not eat right, not sleep right, and most likely, you will have lumpers load/unload the trailers, or it'll be a good percentage of drop & hook.......Sublime, izifaddag, xllxmrjohnxllx and 2 others Thank this.

While our jobs are unfortunately sedentary, we still have to stay in shape. Seeing those people who look as big as their truck is motivation enough to take care of your only body.izifaddag, SheepDog, xllxmrjohnxllx and 2 others Thank this.

I see. I belong to a gym but I hardly have time to visit it. I do, however, plan on spending time there before traveling well over 1,500 miles to orientation, doing whatever I can not to get kicked out. Lifting 50lbs. over head seems reasonable. So does the 3 minutes heel tests you speak of on the steps. I'm ready to do whatever they require of me within reason. I am probably most concerned about the duck walk. Do you walk forward and backwards, and about how many steps would you guess?xllxmrjohnxllx Thanks this.

I seen these on site while looking thru the trucking sites, but what does a beem have too do with trucking , they say we have too walk a 12 foot i beem carrying a box , never done that before , so were does that come into play into trucking, and i was applying for van div or ref div not flatbedding, and btw i used too walk the rails when i was younger from my house too town 2.5 miles never fell off, Everett.

Sounds more and more like agility training for a dog...
just_sayin and basstime54 Thank this. -
the duck walk is more of a joke than anything...do not sweat it...it's nothing really
basstime54 Thanks this. -
It may be a joke but from recently crawling under trucks, it will keep your head from getting split open or bruised!
basstime54 and xllxmrjohnxllx Thank this.
