Can you explain to me how the APUs work and what they actually run/control? And also what then would I need an invertor for??

inverter- I like toast... also if I'm sitting anywhere I'd like to see the tv too... lol

APU runs the air and will help keep the lights on.
I'm not sure exactly what they do.

What's Roehl's policy on per diem? Can you opt out of it or do they kinda force ya into the deal?

APU is basically a mini diesel engine, that uses a tenth of the fuel per hour that the behemoth under the hood uses. For the most part, that APU is a generator, it charges the batteries thus also giving the use of the inverter which is setup with normal 120 volt household outlets. Our APU's also provide air conditioning which can freeze ya out at night. Otherwise for Roehl's uses, the APU can also be set to monitor the battery voltage and the coolant temperature. If the coolant drops below 60 degrees or the batteries drop below 12.3 volts(might be wrong, but close) the APU starts up, heating the coolant and charging the batteries. Both of these make winter much easier on the truck. However our APU's are limited, it can also be setup to heat the truck, however Roehl chose to install bunk heaters for that job.

Well, I'm sitting in Marshfield now. Got in about 7PM tonight. Dropped my load in Luck and got a load out of Minneapolis. Steel to Prentice. Me and another guy that was delivering in Luck we got loads in the same place. He had one pick up and I had two. Same company. Same Cons... Neither one of us were able to make it to the ETA. So we relayed at the Prentice yard. I made the decision that I want to change to the van fleet. After these past few weeks and getting well less then 300 miles a day I am not making any money. Not to mention the safety of being on top of the loads and all that comes with that. I'll admit that I don't think its easy either... I'm tired of being beat up tired and FILTHY!!!!
So they were bringing me here tonight. Before they could they sent me to get another load to tarp! lol Relaying it here and talking to someone here about switching over to the van side of things.
I hope all goes well! lol
    Wish me luck...

Hey Belleye! I sent you a text message yesterday or today...

Last I heard Roehl only had a handful of tractors with APU's, is that still the case? Is the company planning to have APU's on all units as they replace tractors?

Pick your pay plan, tax advantage(per diem) or premium(do your own). It's an open option and I wasn't pressured to go per diem at all....of course I didn't....
