Just curious, have people failed the Permit test and what happens if you do fail?

In SLC you have technically 4 chances to take the permit test. My class goes tomorrow for that. They give you 2 chances on Wed to take it and pass it if you fail you go back on Thursday and you technically get 2 more chances to take it and pass it. After that its a long bus ride home. They give you 3 practice tests in Class so they go over everything.

No they dont. All they have in the lounge atm is some restaurant style booth seating and some vending machines. I know that they are remodelling though so maby they took them out for that.

What do you mean red tagged when you went through the gate?

You take it over and you only get a few shots at it. In all seriousness you shouldnt have a problem passing it. They pretty much have you highlight all the pertinent info in it so when you study you can just read the highlighted stuff. They also practice test you a few times. Noone should really fail the test as its rather easy. I suggest people that havent started yet go to their local DMV and pick up the CDL book. Its free and every state has the same regulations as they are federal. You can then get a leg up by at the very least reading through it now. Focus on the General, Air Brake and Combination sections. Those are the ones you test on.

Tough question. My trainer who later was my team partner had a lazy eye. He just used one eye to do the eye chart test. But if I remember correctly, they do a left/right light test to make sure you can see lights at the peripheral of your vision. For the most part, it is a typical DMV eye test. So if you had to do an eye test to get or renew your drivers license, you should be able to pass.

And if you get through class and want a trainer who knows first hand, ask for Joe who drove the "halfbreed express". They know who he is and he's a good trainer. A little crazy. But a good guy and a good trainer.

They took them out about a month or so ago. I was in there briefly while they were pulling the pool tables out. I didn't know they were remodeling. Funny. Everyone keeps saying Central is in a financial rut and they're remodeling...

Red Tagged is when they tag your truck as failing some aspect of a DOT-like inspection or you are in need of service. For example, if you pull in a trailer that has a broken reefer light or your reefer unit needs service, they will put a red tag on it and it can not leave until the red tag issues are resolved. It sucks when you are under a load and they red tag your truck or trailer because you have to hustle to make sure you get it fixed asap to get out of there which isn't always that easy.

Also, sometimes you have to learn to keep your mouth shut to avoid a red tag. If you question something, let them do the inspection, go park your truck and come back and ask questions. I'm not talking about obvious safety issues which you will want to make sure you have a red tag put on. I'm talking about potentially arbitrary crap that might not be safety related but might give someone cause to just hold you up just for the sake of holding you up while they look for things to do.

Recently WVCDC has been extra-diligent. Apparently, too many were breaking down otr and so to save money pressure has been applied to "catch" the buggaboos locally.
