Okay hands, I'm looking for your input. Are there any good training companies. Stevens & England have schools here in Dallas but I will travel to get with a half way decent outfit. An awful lot of posts here are really down on Stevens & England. Is any outfit any better? (Yeah, I also know griping is a way of life for drivers.) My situation: 54, bachelor, no dependents. Drove for a couple of years (89-91). off the road since. I know I will have to got back through a training program again. But I'm not totally wet behind the ears. Trained with J.B.Hunt back in the bad old days so I know what a bad trainer & a good trainer is. I will only accept good trainers. I've been sitting behind a desk for the last 18 years so I'm not in good enough physical condition to do much unloading myself. Nor do I want trainers who treat me as just a 2nd log book or a traveling lumper. I'm not a "make every dime/mile possible" kind guy nor do I expect to be home every week. Is 1 day off for each week out still the standard? I can live with 6 - 8 weeks out. And 2500 to 3200 mile or $500 weeks are fine with me. Prefer to stay west of the Mississippi but I know I'm gonna have ta cross the Big Muddy sometimes. Not really interested in regional or route work. I have no intention of ever being a lease driver or an O/O. Strictly a solo company driver. Teams are fine during training but once I qualify for my own truck, I wanna stay solo. So any suggestion anyone has - I'm all ears (and belly).
Are there ANY good training companies?

Millis wouldn't work if he wants to stay WEST of the Mississippi.

Millis is a dry box outfit. Not a biggie but I think I might prefer a reefer outfit. I take it Millis doesn't run much west of the Mississippi? I hear Most of Stevens contracts are Midwest to NYC or thereabouts. Not crazy about that but one has to accept compromises in life....
My thinking is - Reefer equals more available freight but also dealing with grocery store warehouses (ugh!!) and hiring preferred lumpers (even bigger UGH!!)
