JELLYBEAN:
BONUS HAULS CHICKEN & OCCASIONALLY WILL GET A BACK HAUL, but most of the time, they'll deadhead to pick-up at Perdue plants. I mean deadhead! Many times I would get empty at Jewels in Chicago, then deadhead to Washington,IN to load turkies - 400 miles. That is how Perdue thinks;they want their trucks at their plants. It was fine with me. I got paid the same loaded & deadhead.
Another good deadhead is from Stop & Shop in Assonet,MA to Milford,DE - 400 miles.
I've never run produce for them, & NYC is a no-no. You can run through it if you want (Bonus doesn't route you, unless you're dumb enough to need it),but I ususally take I-287 around. Drivers have plenty of time to get to their stops.
Just a note on logs. Neither Bonus nor Perdue will hound a driver that is willing to produce; just make them legal.
I can understand why you want to run the eastern shore; I never spent much time over there until I met Bonus. I kinda like the people & the area. I could live without the bears in a few areas & that beautiful she-bear witch at the VA coop, but all in all I wouldn't mind living there.
Don't forget that Tyson & Moutainaire( sp ? ) have plants on the eastern shore too.
Good luck & safe rides to you.

Trashtrucker:
I just read your story last night, & you got my juices fllowing about running local again. I've legally had 35 years OTR,regional & local ( I started driving at 14 on backroads & farms). I've been through 4 wives & 0 kids (all my fault) ; my 2nd wife told me "that road is your love ,your life & your lady. No woman is ever gonna come between you". I reckon she was right. I have no regrets.
I've always wondered about & admired the man who could come home after a hard day's work to the same woman, same screaming brats & the same 4 walls. He showers, eats & goes to bed only to get up & do it all over again the next day. I know that's how it's supposed to be. I know it's the right thing to do, but my twisted mind just can't wrap around it.
However, the 4-wheelers are getting harder to tolerate, I have little patience left for them. Those freezing winds & sub-zero temps in Chicago & Buffalo feel colder each year. The truckstop food in my favorite restaurants all tastes like cardboard & grass & the crap on the CB just isn't worth having it on.
So,I've been thinking that maybe a local or regional job is in the horizon, then I read your blog about Pritchett. I've seen them for years & delivered mulch to the same places, but 60 mph trucks never appealed to me.
Well, now that I 've gotten to know most of the east coast bears by name (especially VA), maybe I could better handle the idea of 60 mph on a local basis.
I would appreciate any inside info about who to contact at Pritchett that might be sensitive to an old beat-up trucker who just wants to do a good job & go home once a week.
Sorry!!! I forgot to answer your question; I was too busy blubbering. Sorry!!
Yes, Bonus offices are in Sorrento. Their yard is in Plymouth, but their formal address is Apopka.
Unless you applied for a job with them in the last 5-6 years, you're probably better-off not getting hired when you were 15. From what I understand, they weren't too good before then.
Safe rides to ya. -
I don't know if Pritchett would be able to offer you much around Ocoee, I think C&W basically has that market wrapped up. They have some regional positions that might work with you living there, but as far as local goes they tend to not hire any further south than Ocala, unless there is a need such as a trash contract, or some other kind of county contract. That's where I got lucky, I live in Tallahassee, which is no where near Lake Butler where Pritchett is based out of, but we have a contract with the solid waste department for Leon county, we haul trash, and myself and one other driver haul Bio-solid, the bi product of sewage treatment. Anyhow, local has it perks, but I also ran OTR long dumps for Pritchett and enjoyed that as well, being home at night better suits me though, but believe me I still get the itch for different places and different scenery. Hopefully things will work out for you whichever way life takes you.
B1TOMA Thanks this. -
Thanks for the comeback.

Hey B1TOMA, What kinda pay does Perdue have for O/O ??
-
Don't know. Idrive for Bonus, & they dropped their O/O program.
Good luck talking with that jerk in charge of hiring O/O's at Perdue. He's formed a life-long friendship with himself. -
LoL # life long friendship with himself ...
Thanks Anyway .. -
Well I'm gonna try to revive an old thread.... I have been on the phone with them a few times, I'm guessing the 3-4 weeks has gone bye bye, they tell me it more like 4-6 weeks which seems odd for mostly east coast runs... I'll be talking to them tomorrow again and will get some more info I hope!! I;m supposed to hear from a Frank tomorrow so we'll see!! I hope they have something good to offer, I hear the equipment is good too!
-
They used to be OK outfit.
No idea now, it's been 10 years since I was there.
Have you checked into Sunco ?
They're all O/O but they also hire drivers, alot of atlanta and back.
Home most weekends, with good miles available !!! -
I've talked to Sunco a while ago but the only seat open was a guy that just sounded fishy and since Sunco has no direct oversight other then to supply loads I decided against him at the time, was paying on a 1099, no bennie's and I think he was offering $.29 mile! I made that back in the 70's when I started!!!
Maybe I'll try them again though....
