I used to drive for CFI which did use practical miles and I would be within 1% of dispatched and actual miles most weeks. Despite my best efforts at HB I can't get my OOR below about 8.5%, so I would say about a 7% difference unless you are fanatical about visiting every goat path in the central US as you drive.

Oh the Hill Brothers website it says they pay the fuel tax. Do they pay just the residual that you owe by buying fuel in a low tax state when you pass through a higher tax state or do they reimburse you for all the taxes that you paid at the pumps?
The reason I ask this is that I am wanting to lease next spring and I'm trying to decide which would work better for me; Hill Brothers or Schneider. -
Good luck,
Jim
EDIT: My bad, you were talking the fuel tax... yes, HB pays all that for you, figures out the pro-rated amount for each state, etc.therobot Thanks this. -
So just to clarify. The fuel tax is .17 a gallon in Tennessee. If fuel were $3.17 a gallon then I'd only be paying $3.00 a gallon (not including the surcharge at this point). Am I correct?
Schneider makes the driver pay all of the fuel taxes. -
When I get a fuel recommendation from our system and pull up at the truck stop the price I pay is usually 8 to 20 cents below the cash price posted for everyone else. It rarely hits 30-35 cents below the pump price (particularly when the price of fuel spikes).
I'm not certain if the fuel tax is calculated into that amount or not, but what I do know is that the price I get via our network is all that I pay for the fuel -- there is no separate tax structure on top of what I pay. If I pump 100 gallons of $3/gallon fuel then I pay $300.00 via settlement, not a penny more. We aren't given a breakdown of how the money is allocated vis a vis taxes, but basically I could care less... I know that I pay below pump price every time and I know the price in advance.
Hope that helps,

I am leaning toward HB. I will be making a decision early next year. If there is a bonus for recruiting I will give you credit should I be going to HB.

Can't say you can go wrong with Hill Bro's.
I was there KC city driver for ten years and I got to see first hand how they work with there drivers.
You drivers know you can't keep everyone happy, but Hill is a family and even familys don't see eye to eye,but you work for them and they will see to it you run all you want.
