Here goes nothin', I've been a professional driver now for nearly 8 years. I basically graduated high school and started driving, after a short stint working for my dad that is, so at the age of 19 and against the advice of many, I attended Roadmaster driving school in Tampa, Fl. As many of you know the chances of getting a job at that age is slim to none but I was actually able to land a local gig right away hauling sod in central Florida. Training?? Not quite, more like "here's the key's, be here at 3 am" can anyone say wake up call? Now like most of the new guys I #####ed and moaned and threatened to quit god knows how many times, and in all truth probably quit and went back to that job atleast 5 times:biggrin_2559: I was what you would call the grass is always greener guy, funny how as soon as I would jump the fence a terminix truck would veer off in my green pasture and spill all of his pesticides and all the green grass turned quickly to a shade of brown I'd rather not discuss. I played this hit and miss game for many years, I posted on another forum in basically the same fashion of many others on here and bashed the hell out of any company I would quit just for the sense of knowing they were the ones who had done me wrong and that there was no way in hell my attitude might have had anything to do with it. Well life came along as they say and I got my head on straight, I moved to Tallahassee, Fl and was hired by Pritchett trucking and it seemed almost immediately that my demons from the past were arising once again and surely I would end up quitting, but something was different this time, I told myself to give it an honest effort, don't quit, and make yourself and your wife proud and that's what I've done, here it is 3 years later and I could not be happier. By now everyone's probably wondering why is this guy blabbering on so much, well it's for the sole fact that if atleast one new guy, or any guy for that matter reads this and changes the way he looks at life and his job in general, in such a way that you don't feel the need to get on here and bash companies, or others drivers for that matter due solely to the fact that they enjoy working for Werner, Hunt, Swift the list goes on, then the fact that one person listened means that the crap I've been through in life may influence the positive outcome of another. Many will say I'm crazy for liking Pritchett as much as I do, but it's what makes me happy and at the end of the day that's all that matters, put yourself first as drivers and do everything in your power to control where your future takes you. I'm only 27 but I thank God I've been able to learn this life lesson now and not still be hopping fences at 60 years old looking for the pasture of green that will never be there.........

Well put. I myself have done almost the same thing throughout my life. That's because I really would prefer not to drive at all. But since I haven't figured out yet what else I can make a lot of money doing....( I'm working on that now ) I'm still driving. Sometimes part time, sometimes full time when I have to. I figure I have about 20 years to go till retirement and so I still have a little time to fiddle around and try to be successful at something besides driving. But I'm grateful that I'm able to have this to fall back on if need be. Always good to know that I can make a career out of this if I ever have to !

Well said Leanright. I'm the same way. Never intended for the CDL to be the prime earner but it is. Looking back...I too have chased the greener grass only to find it brown when I get there.

I have less than 20 to go but agree...it's time to settle in.

Absolutely if your happy and the company treats you well then stay put. Just remember, there might be a day when and if they might start taking you for granted and things begin happening. It doesn`t always stay the same and good things don`t always last. That`s why you invest so you won`t have to jump to greener pastures in your 50`s.

Ha! Invest? I did and loss my #####. My home has dropped 50% and my 401 is back to where it was in the early '90s. Our gvmt. is in debt to the tune of 10 trillion bailing out wall street.....a bill my grand kids are gonna have to pay.

It's gonna take 24 plus more months to clean out the foreclosures before we even stabilize.

Guess I will have to forget the Winnebago unless something BIG happens.

    You?

Yeah it`s much tougher now investing. I got hit bigtime but holding my own much as they ( whoever that is ) don`t like it. I think now is a time to observe, I`m not very happy with the last event which seems to be a pattern since the savings and loan crises. They made it bigger and now we have something copied from an experimental failure and made it nationwide. Can anyone here name what it is ?

Look for the 400 billion left from the stimulous package to hit the markets in 2011. They do this so at election time the economy is supposedly doing well. Time after time for presidential elections this has been done. Our paper dollar and in my opinion any freedoms from high taxes is on borrowed time. I don`t have an answer to that this time on which asset to invest in ( certainly the risky way is the stock market ) and the paper dollar. Better to say we tried than do nothing at all though.

With jobs I am staying with what I have.
