I thought I'd start up a thread where you can post the names of those little craphole towns that take advantage of tourists, truck drivers and out-of-towners. Maybe it'll help prevent a ding to your wallet or driving record when you unsuspectingly wander through one of these communist infested cesspools of civilization.

    Here's my first contribution--Selmer, Tennessee:

Yep, I got a ticket in this hotbed of hillbilly justice. My crime? Failing to notice the "No through trucks" sign hidden among a plethora of signs in a construction zone.

You should also be aware that Selmer, Tennessee employs the use of redlight cameras as well as speed cameras.

What really sucks about this town is that they are writing revenue tickets that also have points assessed against your driving record. So, if I just pay the $122.50 fine, then my spotless driving record of 7 years will have a moving violation listed on it. Insurance goes up... job prospects go down... all thanks to these toothless hillbillies.

So do yourself a favor and steer clear of Selmer, Tennessee.

Redneck and Communists are about as polar opposite as you can be...

Don't run red lights or speed in Selmer, problem solved...And do you really think they maliciously 'hid' the sign just to catch a trucker?...I've found most small towns to have the nicest people in them compared to the big cities and I speak from experience, I grew up in Baltimore City and moved to Outinthemiddleofnowhere, Kentucky...

Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. From the way the cop talked about a previous violator who also did not see the sign, and the smug way he indicated that the judge sided with him in that case, I'd say they have the sign posted for maximum revenue. I am going to take a drive up there this weekend in my car to see just what the signage looks like.

From my recollection of the area though, coming north on US-45, there are large overhead signs indicating to stay in the left lane if you are continuing north on US-45. Today, however, the left lane was closed due to construction. So, while looking at all the signs trying to figure out exactly which way US-45 went, I missed the "No through trucks" sign.

And for the record, I don't speed, and I don't run redlights. As a matter of fact, I stopped at the intersection with the camera when the light was green and waited for it to cycle red then green again before I went. Most intersections with cameras are timed for maximum revenue, NOT safety.

I can think of many where they have put a school zone sign in front of the no truck sign or a utility pole.

You are right. He needs a few COMMERCIAL miles to fully understand.

Agreed, Les. I'm sure this thread will grow. LOL

How about Muskogee OK. You can only get $100 worth of diesel there at a time. Their pumps don't allow you to get any more than that. (Ok, so this is from two years ago, hubby refused to go back there. LOL)

beware the backwoods of pennsalvania/west virginia---there are places that scare the hell out of me---like the yards with so many mobile homes that it looks like a town----or someplace in kentucky

    >>>>I am going to take a drive up there this weekend in my car to see just what the signage looks like.

Are you saying you're not even sure it was hidden?...

And I find it difficult to believe people sat around and said, "how can we catch some truckers" which would seem to be a safety issue, maybe I'm naive, but that doesn't pass the smell test to me...

    >>>>You are right. He needs a few COMMERCIAL miles to fully understand.

Maybe you're right and I'll be open to that...But for now, it reads like someone with a victim mentality saying something like that...
