Are you sure? I am asking because I am not really sure but my thoughts are you follow the last instructions given and if the sign says closed or bypass that to me would be a good reason to fly on by, which is what I did today, red bypass signal, got up to scale and it said closed and cruised on by, none of the 20 or so officers doing inspections came chasing after me. So of someone actually knows the regs I wouldnt mind seeing them

The DOT hypocracy gets exposed on this one...i tought scales are supposed to make us safer????
It turns out charging truckers with some bs violation is more important to them than the public safety..
I say thats a perfect excuse for running that scale...if youre not local and if you dont have any psychic abilities you won't know the scale is there until its too late...
The presence of all the skid-marks proves my point and it indicates, that this scale is an accident waiting to happen and i hope they get sued when it does... -
I missed that one myself once, I got lucky I just kept going. I thought who in the #### put a scale way back there. What the ?
-
Umm, not quite! I have gotten the red light and seen as I was about to enter the ramp of the scale that is was closed! Sometimes when they close up and go home, they forget to turn off the PrePass.Flying Finn and otherhalftw Thank this. -
I know how Prepass works. I have one. I was trying to explain to the fellow that ran a scale that the truck in front (if it has prepass) may bypass the scale. Even though the scale is open and he should pay attention not just blindly follow the truck in front of him.

The DOT in LA play a game with pre-pass at times.
They will give you a bypass on the sign and a red on the pre-pass.
If you pass the scale they will ticket you for running it.
You always go with the pre-pass when you have one. Now if it does not do anything and the scale is open you also go in.
It is mainly in states with scales that have several signs that this really matters. They will have an open sign, and a Ok to bypass sign near a pre weigh on the road.
If your prepass is red and it says ok to bypass, you better go in. You will not get a ticket for entering, but they are 100% justified giving you one for blowing it.kd5icr Thanks this. -
I fail to see how telling you to bypass then ticketing you for it can be considered justified.
Roscopeco Thanks this. -
LOL
could it be a money grab ?? -
I paid $50.00 once in Colorado for passing when they didn't have a sign turned on--said they didn't have to.
Down here on the Mississippi side of New Orleans, they charge $600.00 and want every penny of it.
