I started work with them June 2010 I have driven accident free for over 17 years. While I was out on the road for 3 weeks I requested to go home for a doctor appointment. It takes 30 days to get in to see my doctor. I let company know about the appoint 4 weeks in advance. They would not let me go home. I call to let them know how important the appoint is, it is a med evaluation with lab work. Still they kept me out. I missed the appointment and went with out my meds for 4 days and had to drive under this condition. They got me home a whole 10 days late. I had to go to the ER to get my medications. Just for me 30 days. I told them company. So back to work I went and again they sent me home late for the second apptmt. I stay home this time until I was seen missing work and wages. They shown no concern.
August 2010 my mother get very ill and is in ICU. I tell the company about it and request to be routed home as soon as possible. They said okay. I did not get sent for for 12 more days. My mother died while I was out on the road. I stay out because I did not want my record being marked bad for leaving while dispatached under loads. Yep she died. They did not show any concern.
Now here it is September 20 2010 I am under a load and told to take the load to Chester VA there is something wrong with load. I go there to find out that I am fired. They also tell they can not help me with money to get me home. I would have to pay for this. They need to keep my last wages cause I owe them money. Per an agreement of hire in first 6 months. I had to borrow money to get myself home. I had leave my micro wave my cooler my beddings my food and some clothing due to not having the money to ship my belongs home. When I asked them to drive me to Richmond VA 20 miless aways they said get lost. Chester has no Buses No trains and NO plains. They said they could not pay for my way home and that they were keeping my last wages because I owed them.
Now also while I was employed with them I saw them do this a women. They dumped her out in the middle of Texas and she had to find her way home.
PLEASE DRIVERS BE AWARE AND AVOID THIS COMPANY![]()

Sorry to hear this driver, If I was in Chester, VA. I would be happy to give you a ride to Richmond.
skinnytrucker Thanks this. -
How many screen names are you going to create to tell the same story ?
Lonesome and rookietrucker Thank this. -
good catch TK

He is what I have decided to call a blacksmith.
-
Look, this man was really hurt by marten and dont want any body else to go through, what marten put him through.
-
Good catch TK,
That story sounded fishy anyway. His doctor takes 3o days to get an appointment?
If he is in that bad of medical shape, maybe he needs to be in a nursing home. -
Just based on his grammar and spelling I would think that Marten had a valid reason for termination....
Just an observation.
BTW if my mother was at her death bed, I would tell the dispatcher to swap me out. If he (or she) didn't get back to me within an hour, that load and truck gets aimed at the hospital. They can swap it out en-route. Were I deadhead, I would just head on immediately.
30 days to make an appointment? Only if it is a specialist. That being the case, probably he shouldn't be driving anyways.
I would like to see this drivers immigration status...jimmys Thanks this. -
Double story, yeah.
But there is one point of validity here: with Marten, if you need something to happen, most of the time you have to be a major squeaky wheel to get it to happen. I doesn't really matter if it's a doctor's appt or a very ill relative.
"Hey, my mom's really sick, I need to get home" on the qualcomm doesn't get the job done, because there's the regular dispatch, the night dispatch and the weekend dispatch to keep honest. Any one of the three will not know/forget that you have a need to be somewhere, and just run you like a normal truck. Voila, mom dies or you run out of medication.
Not defending the company; internal communication is crappy. Just observing.Everett and mathematrucker Thank this. -
I wasn't necessarily doubting his story but to create more than one screen name to tell it makes me wonder. Like with anything on here you only hear their side of the story and who knows how true it is or if it's true at all. All you usually hear is how bad a company is with no good points or how great a company is with no bad. You also don't know what type of employee the person is. Maybe they're a total pain in the ### or maybe they're fantastic.
My personal experience with Marten was very good, but not perfect. I was with them for 3 years total. My home time was good. I usually got home on the day I wanted. Sometimes it was a day late or a day earlier. One time I had to deliver a load during my home time because it was a Mclane load and they wouldn't take it early. So I went home for a day and a half and delivered it 90 miles away and then went back home for the rest of my home time. Did I really want to deal with it ? No, but sometimes you have to be flexible. Their home time is one of their strong points, 1 day off for every 5 on. Most companies are 1 for 7.
My pay was always right. I usually didn't have any trouble with maintenance, I might get hung up for a full day for service though. I didn't particularly care for the attitude I would get from the shop employees especially when I was nothing but nice to them. I got along with my fleet manager really good. I got about sick and tired of OTHER drivers leaving me their problems. Dropping trailers that needed repairs like flat tires, dropping trailers without enough fuel, swapping me their empty trailer for my load so they could go home and not even have the decency to clean it out. My favorite was when they would drop a load and not leave the bills with it so I could deliver it. Some other problems was night and weekend dispatch. They were about useless in my eyes. I don't know how many times they just about made my head explode. There were many other good things and bad things. For me though the good did out weigh the bad.
Now with that all said, I've been gone for almost 2 years, and allot can change in two years. I still have a friend that drives for them and has for about 12 years and another friend that was with them for 5 years and left about 5 months ago. From what I hear the electronic logs have put a big kink in the flow there. It's taking some time to adjust. Also the days of long trips are long gone. My friend says that if he gets a trip over 1000 miles it surprises him. He gets frustrated allot more than he used to but at this point he doesn't plan on leaving or anything. He still gets consistent miles although not as much as he used to. If I were to decide to go back on the road I would definitely give them a call but would probably end up trying to get on with a company that has longer hauls.Last edited: Oct 28, 2010
