Truck Stop Menus ~

hey gal, i too am from "the north" and i didn't think i would like grits either. till one day they came along as a side dish to my breakfast. at first, they didn't have any great taste. but with a little bit of salt and butter, they weren't that bad at all. in fact, truth be told, i would always order a side dish of grits with my breakfast everytime i was at a "southern" truckstop or roadside resturant. they are white corn, mashed, i was told. anyhow, some people put grape jelly, or strawberry jam, or whatever else please's their palate. try some grits someday, add what you think makes them taste good TO YOU.

 

Not everyone likes grits.And it`s all right if you don`t,we won`t take your birthday away.It depends on the mood I`m in when I eat my grits.Sometimes I like butter and sugar.Other times ,butter,salt and pepper.Never tried syrup or jelly on them.But it is to each ones choice.:smt025

 

I'm from Wisconsin and have lived in GA and TX. so my grits are a bit of a hybrid. being from WI and all I melt down a big ol hunk of cheese in my grits! it's the only way I'l touch them. now if I could only find a way to make catfish tolerable it would make my wife (from TX) very happy.:smt023

 

Put your favorite breading on it, fry it, and then smother with your favorite hot sauce! Wash it down with a good mixed drink, or your favroite cerveza, and repeat.

All this talk has got me really hungry! I miss a great plate of biscuits and gravy, Bob Evans ain't bad, but it's just not the same. Another spot I miss is a place I nicknamed the 'smoking shack'. Its in N Little Rock, AR, down the service drive from the Petro and Pilot. Their 'Que is pretty good, and it's pretty cheap. For $5, you get a giant pulled pork sandwich, complete with coleslaw.YUMMM!

 

The best biscuts and gravey I'v had were at a truck sto pin MO on that interstate southwest of st louis. I'm so tired I can't htink of the interstate much less the truck stop right now but they are good and a full order comes on a plate the size of your leg!!!

You think memorizing a truck stop menu is bad, try memorizing a fancy restaurant menu.
Lobster, Prime Rib, Sea Food Mornea, Fillet Migon,Chcken Cordon Bleu,Pasta Alfredo, 100 Soups, Deserts, Salads Galore, Etc. And they want you to know that all in a day or two.
Brain can barely work that fast, especialy when it's 105 degrees in the kitchen and the humidity is 80%.
So don't feel to bad about knowing a menu from your favorite place. As long as it aint Lenny's Grease Shop and Bakery.

 

OK: Let's get weird. Try Checker's Sports Bar across from Pilot in Walcott, IA, (that's Pilot on N side.) Best Blacken Prime Rib you will ever eat.

I found a way that will help with the sugar not disolving in the tea.. still not quite the same though. Tell the waitress to bring you a glass of tea NO ICE, the tell her to bring just a glass of ice. The sugar will disolve better in the UN-iced tea....... then add the ice.

 

Not me. There's petro and Flyin hook nearby if I ever get nostalgic. (taking a month or two off to recharge my batts.) I actually got to where I'd eat sensibly on the road! Most of em have identical menus, so I'd know it's the same slop no matter where I went. Note: The bigger chains have similar menus, but the smaller truckstops that had a restraunt would USUALLY have a pretty nice menu.
