So I had an incident early this afternoon and Im kinda nervous about what might happen. Been with company only 7 weeks, still on 90 day probation....
Scenario: Basically backing into door 2 of a 2 door dock. My open swing door bumped Driver's side mirror of Day cab in Door 1....
I didn't physically see this take place, neither did driver of other tractor( he was on loading dock)..... However I knew I was really tight next to other tractor, I walked around to look.... Low and behold I noticed his mirror had been pushed in a little bit... Both tractor/trailers were straight as an arrow against dock, however I could easily tell day cab tractor and trailer were off center....
I head inside... Speak to Driver and mention about mirror... We both chat as shippers are loading both of us side by side.. He's finished first, gets paperwork and leaves building. Once I finish and get paperwork, I walk outside and BOOM, he has already taken my company's info off of truck and wants my Driver's license.. I oblige.....
I must stress(not to make light the situation) this mirror setup is on a simple swivel and can easily be pushed right back into place. There isn't a scratch to be noticed on mirror or tractor. Daycab Driver tells me his company suggested he call the police....... Fortunately, we avoid that... But it really chaps my behind that driver is telling me he wants(or his company will want) the entire door and mirror setup replaced.... Driver hops into cab and is going to drive off with mirror pushed in(also really chaps my behind), I guess so he can show is company that the swivel mirror actually works........... Anyhow, Im not going to let that stand, so I swivel the mirror back out right where it belongs and Im telling him NO HARM,NO FOUL, but by this point he is just giving off bad vibes and acting completely arrogant, He has all my info and has contacted his company.... He makes sure to tell me he has pictures of when the mirror was swiveled in, right before he blazes off.......... I reacted poorly and got absolutely no info from him.... I wanted pictures of him off center in the dock, but as Im telling him this, this is when he fires his cab up and starts leaving....
What am I to do? Call dispatch, confirm Im loaded and mention incident as best I can....... So now I sit in Limbo... Nervous.......
Thoughts???
Minor Incident...

Sounds like he was trying to take advantage of a new guy...

If this is your first problem, and it is the way you posted, (which I have no reason to doubt,) I think you can pretty much relax. You may have to have a chat with your safety department, but it should be no big thing.
Hopefully.
Now, for future info:
You have a camera in your accident kit. ANYTIME you touch ANYTHING, document it. Photograph it. Throughly. Also, if you don't have one, get a digital camera, as well as the camera on your cell phone. The fact is, that you cannot have too many pictures when it comes to covering your back side. Nice thing about the camera in your phone, is that you can immediately send those pix to your safety department.rookietrucker Thanks this. -
That's just it... I didn't drop everything and notify Dispatch pronto.... I was completely upfront with them though, I even mentioned the other driver wanting to call the Police(lol, I think just out of complete nervousness!!!!)
Didn't get the pictures either.. Even though my dispatch and myself are both well aware of accident kit......
It is what it is, I don't have the fear I would have as if I was working for SuperHugeTruckingCompany and this happened like this... My fear is more so like second poster mentioned about being taken advantage of, if this incident gets turned into insurance, if it really turns into a mirror replacement or whole door replacement.... As laughable as that is.... I could sense that dooming my career here...... -
I wouldnt sweat it too much but like Don said a picture is worth a thousand words
