So you're telling me that the LCM can tell if you have a headlight out WITHOUT ever turning on the headlights?

And no, I do not know anything about LCM or Version 2. Didn't know they existed.

Yeah! just pull out any bulb and you'll get fault code, No fuse for every bulb, in case of short wires unit disables bulb till wiring is fixed.

But there are hidden fuses (six under the unit) on red wires. This is battery power.

    LCM has MID 216,
PSID 2 - Low beam left (not dr. side becouse LCM is one for all markets with 12V and 24V, including driving on left countries, like Australia, India, Africa and UK).

MID216 PSID4 Low beam, right hand side
MID216 PSID 13 Left front dir light
MID216 PSID 14 right front dir light
MID216 PSID 15 Left tail dir light
MID216 PSID 16 right tail dir light
MID216 PSID 17 Left trailer dir light
MID216 PSID 18 right trailer dir light

    Types of faults:
FMI 5 - low current, bad ore wrong bulb, broken wire
FMI 6 - current over 5A ore power supply over 16V, usually this code appeares when wires are short to ground.

    josh.c Thanks this.

Wow-that's insane. So the only way to do it the way I was talking about without throwing codes would be to leave the factory bulbs dangling in their pigtails, and buy new pigtails for the HIDs. I don't guess it has a sensor that can tell if you put a piece of electrical tape over the fault light in the dash, does it?:biggrin_25523:

Sorry for the thread hijack, and thanks for your input Pablo.

I've checked with a Volvo dealer in Nebraska about reprogramming my
computer to accept HID lights and their cost is $500. 00. This is crazy, I will check around for better pricing. I refuse to pay this much just to change a lighting program.

    Dear Pablo:
It sounds to me that you are a really nice guy who knows what he is talking about and I think you would know there is a possibility to bypass LCM without getting fault codes. What I mean that you already tried to outsmart the "smart" sweden system. помоги пожалуйста.

Ok, here it goes. To all who say that hid is bad and you can not see at night. To all who say that you'll get the CEL/similar with the hid. Plus, others. = you're wrong. 98% . I sell hid kits. I install hid kits. I also
Advice not to buy anything under $150 and above $300. Under $150 the quality is not there, over $300 is overpriced. Talking from personal experience here ; have two of my own cars, in which hid is installed as the low beam. One of my car's uses the same bulb for the
High and low beams bi's. - this car has the wiring harness and the kits are more expensive for this type of the set up. My Honda motorcycle has hid kit. My brothers acura has original crappy hid kit, which is going out soon. My fog lights have the hid kit. Now, my rig has the hid kit. Installed them all my self. Sell them too. Now, the brightness of the hid bulb will Be dependent on the kalvin temp of the light , not to be mistaken with the C or F temperature. Hid can be installed into any headlight that has the removable bulb. I have the 2007 Volvo vnl780 with the hid kit and had no need to go to the dealer to pay them for the reprograming truck's computer. That's another reason why the price was quated at the higher number. Kit carries 3 year warranty. Hid's work fine in the Projected or halogen headlights.
