Why do drivers not know how to run a recap anymore?

I'm sure I'm missing something here, but isn't a 24 hr break required after 14 days if a 34 isn't used in that time? I'm may be getting things mixed up with Canadian HOS, or I may just be mixed up in the head! :biggrin_25523:

They MAKE us follow our recaps. :)

We have a log book for the yard even, for every day of school we keep a log and follow a recap :)

how DO you spend that many hours in 5 days?

    Assumptions mind you:
    10 hour drive
1 hour (Potty food fuel shower)
    10 hour rest
    --------
21 hrs..... lather rinse repeat (10 hours run)
3 (End of day, start running)
(New day) 7 hours running (20 hours run)
    1 hour (See above)
    10 hour (break)
6 hour run (Finish day 2)
4 hour run (start day 3) (30 hours run)
    1 hour break
    10 hour rest
9 hour run (Finish day 4, 39 hours run)
1 hour run (start day five 40 hours run)
    10 hour sleep/break
    1 hour (see above)
    10 hour run
    1 hour break
1 hour sleep (end day five 50 hours run)

    This assumes:
The 1 hour break is used for fuel, potty, and food. and the 10 hour breaks are used for sleep/hygine

If you skip the 1 hour breaks thats still only 54 hours or so...

I know im a student still but....how is it possible to run 70 in 5 days (legally) or is this a non legal running thing?

It's pretty safe to assume that if a trucker is saying it, it's a "non-legal thing". :biggrin_25515:

Legally you can DRIVE (Line 3) 13.75 hours in any 24 hour period.

    Begin 0001
    Pretrip...0015
    Drive...1115 [11 hours---no rule or law requires a stop]
    Sleeper...2115 [10 hour break]
Drive 2359 [2.75 hours]...finish your 11 hours driving through midnite...then 10, back to drive...and on, and on, and on.....get it?

On the next 24 hour period, you include your pre-trip with the fuel stop, again 13.75 hours driving...it just keeps rolling along day by day.

13.75 x 5 = 68.75 hours driving...the 1.25 hours would be fuel and pre-trips 5 days. 70 hours all used up in 5 complete days, and completely legal!

    Everett Thanks this.

A quick spread sheet on the computer will do it just fine.

In Canada, after 14 days on duty you must take a 36 hour reset. This could be what he/she was referring to.

    Hahahaha funny :)

To reply to orig. poster, I work in a driving school and only drive part time now (don't be a hater! someone has to do it!) and I can assure you they're required to know how to do their recap..... The 34 really changed things, tho, it was a way different game when you had to wait for that 8th day to come back ... and hit a lousy zero, boo. :biggrin_25511:
