CSA 2010 has nothing to do with the proposed new medical requirements, there are no new laws in CSA 2010 it is just a method of tracking companies and drivers safety performance.MrMustard Thanks this.

I think I heard on Landline Now last night that the FMCSA will propose new medical rules next year...

I used to weigh 345 and at 5'9 I wouldn't get the "PRIME TREATMENT" I've lost a few pounds But not to meet the BMI thing. But look around. HOW MANY SKINNY TRUCKERS DO YOU SEE? Not many.i saw a J.B.Hunt driver yesterday he must go 400 +. But a great person and slotted his rig the first time.

Simple point here... DOT sets the minimum medical standards... The company can require more stringent standards as long as they apply it evenly to all applicants.
You can be as fat as you want... However, if a company chooses to set a weight limit... Your not getting hired. -
This has been said more than a few time and is the truth!
That company sets a standard which applies to all the employees and if you are outside of the standard to the bad side you'll be moving to the next company with an application. They do not want higher insurance premiums. I don't blame them either. I'd rather have those costs kept down so I might get a raise in the future instead of giving it away because of someone with a soon to be medical problem and no that's been hashed so I'm not going there too.
It is the insurance companies setting the limits in most cases. As we know we will not win when in a peeing contest with them! It's the same when not hiring a smoker if the smoker raises the premiums for the rest of the employees then he can go elsewhere with his right to smoke! Heck get a quote on an insurance policy and even before they ask your name they ask if you smoke then your weight! THEN they get the rest of the information and the rate gets set and it'll be higher than if you told them no and skinny! Try it!
As I've said and others too, It's your right to do with your body as you want but it's the employers right and the others in the plan to not to have to foot the bill for your rights.
It all comes down to money and we know who rules the roost when Money comes into play. Safety? Well maybe. Rights? Who cares? -
I see the original poster has disappeared.............
Perhaps he'll show up on that TV show next season.
Hope he makes it OK. -
I don't have this first-hand, but I was told that when you apply for insurance, they now ask your family history as well. So even if you live a healthy lifestyle, the lifestyle and illnesses of your parents and siblings can be taken into account when determining your risk/premium.
But based on the reasoning of many folks here, I guess that's only right as well?Injun Thanks this.
