I've been around alot of shipments of explosives while I was in the service and if you were hauling explosives and not marked then it was done by an individual and not the command. What benefit would the government have by shipping something illegal? Now I've seen many carriers stop right outside the gate in Indian Head MD and flip their placards around so they could cross bridges and such but they were loaded the proper way. Besides, just about all the carriers that haul explosives for the government are done by the same companies. I know Tri-State does almost all the hauling for the submarine program such as rocket motors. And the nukes are hauled by a whole different ghost fleet. However, you could have hauled bombs that were inert.

If it is a HM load, then the driver better be aware of every ounce, and be dead certain the bills are ACCURATE TO THE PENNY!
With this statement Swift, or is it Central Ref you drive for, should give you at least a penny per mile raise! Exactly what these companies are looking for with the rookie/newbie drivers...one that will do exactly what they are told, when they are told, and how they are told...no questions, no concerns...just be axle legal will suffice. Excellent example of the perfect answer to a thread I started..."What is a STEERING WHEEL HOLDER?"
A little fudge in your statement here? "as much"...if you don't know you can't lie about not knowing? Is that your philosophy?
In these "articles"...does it show the police report, or just a statement by the author or the driver "recalling" the incident? I guess there aren't any more questions to ask if the driver says he/she just didn't know!
So much for "the driver didn't know"...maybe if the driver knew, then the incident wouldn't have happened. He/She might have been a bit more cautious when and where he/she stopped for a break or a 10 hr break.
CYA in what way...because you have proven your an ignorant truck driver? That is exactly what you are saying in making that statement. (Not you per se CD...but any driver)
FYI...a lie detector exam is not admissible in a court of law...and is only used by law enforcement to cajole a trusting soul to change their story, or to trip up a liar!
That is exactly the reason I am no longer driving for Swift...because I questioned the contents of a load with 5000 pounds of undeclared weight coming out of Mexico! Into the Tucson Sector to boot...we all know about the issues in that region! -
Nothing you have ever posted has been farther from accurate...to be honest this statement has me dumbfounded!
You have the right, and the need to be accurate in what you are carrying! Nothing ever has been said or a rule made where the driver can't request from the shipper to have the seal removed and the load checked, then a new seal applied by the shipper. but drivers are taught to "grab and run"...must hurry to deliver that load so the waiting game can start at the other end.
See above response!
Good luck with that line of defense!
Finally an accurate assumption....but the driver is even more "involved" since the driver "inspected the cargo then applied the seal him/herself!
Many drivers have been charged...and convicted...still claiming innocence! I guess they should have checked the load before driving off with it!
I really didn't think you were a Liberal! the things that come out on this Forum!
Wrong...you will have to convince the judge and jury that you are innocent...they have already accused you of being involved and complicit to the intent!
No Sir...you stay right in the place you are...question authority, and question the true legality of what we are supposed to be doing!trip571 Thanks this. -
When you sign the bills, make sure you put 'S.L.C' and circle it ! This states that it's a 'shipper load and count' load and you are simply hauling a pre-loaded sealed trailer, if it's sealed at all. You should always carry seals with you... then when you sign the bills you also note the seal # you'll be using.... make sure the shipper gets a copy of it and you should ask the dock foreman to witness you put the seal on the trailer if it's not already sealed. Have them sign it right next to the seal number and S.L.C.. if they give you a hard time I would call your d.m. and explain.... this takes a lot of pressure off you right from the start !

I deal with this on a regular basis with containers. Unless it's customer I've been to before, probably 60% of the stuff I haul, I have no idea what it is, how heavy it is, how it's loaded, etc. We are not allowed to pop the seals until we are out of the railroad, and even then we have to have a good reason to do it.

It's crazy man that we choose to haul product like this. With the CSA rules in effect, people should be way more cautious with their CDL.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!

MikeyTodd you must be new to trucking. A driver who has been around awhile will have a pretty good idea what he/she is hauling depending on where they P/U at. A load of F.A.K. going to Sears is usually things Sears sells. A driver has to use COMMON SENSE when picking up freight. I don't know about you, but the shippers I go to I usually have to go in the warehouse to checkin. Thats where I get a look at what they are loading and sometimes they want me to watch them load. I pull a reefer and quite often the company wants load locks in place and they give me permission to break the seal to do so if its a d&h load. I'm sure there are dock workers who have shipped drugs to another, but this is rare.

The easiest fix would be to just not pull any drop an hook, live load and help or watch them.
Next question? -
I'd love to do this, but since they haven't built a causeway/bridge/tunnel from the US to China, I don't think it will happen anytime soon.
