All lanes of eastbound I-94 between Southfield and Oakwood Blvd. exits are closed after a steel hauler lost a load around 2:30 a.m. today.

The lanes could be closed for 8-10 hours as the area is cleaned up, Allen Park Police Lt. Dave Williams said. He is hopeful they might be able to open one lane sooner, but no time estimate is available yet.

Two 45,000 pounds of steel coils were lost along the freeway, he said. Crews are on the scene now cutting it up, so it can be cleaned, he said.

As an alternative, drivers can take Telegragh to Ecorse to Allen Road to avoid the area, WWJ-TV traffic reporter Randy Bhirdo said.

Police are reporting Oakwood is starting to get congested this morning.
