I am still learning as a "cover feeder" driver for UPS in Ontario, going to pull doubles, meaning pretty soon I might have to drive anywhere from Fort Erie (QEW), to Kingston and Windsor/Sarnia... My supervisor/trainer has been telling me to go into inspection stations whenever the lights are on. I have seen the inspection stations near Missisauga/Milton, and the one on QEW. But are there any other major inspection stations that I have to be aware of?

The reason I ask this is because there was 1 day when I was driving with my supervisor he ask this question "I know the inspection station don't have the lights on, but are you even aware of the inspection station on the road side?" That was the first time I was on QEW as a tractor driver...

On day 1, my supervisor was driving, inspection station lights were on near Missasauga, just as my supervisor tried to pull in the light went off so just kept moving along the highway...

So I am just wondering, where are all the major inspection stations? So I can be well aware when I am anywhere near the area. And really, what are the rules, when do I have to go in and when can I keep going? And tricks I need to know about them?

So far all I know is, if the lights are on and you don't go in, you will be chase down on the highway and get a fine? Is that true?

That's all there is to it, if the lights are flashing you go in.

There's 5 or 6 you'll go by on that route.

Is there a map showing where all the inspection stations are on the 4 series highways?

Rand McNally trucker atlas at the truck stop has them listed.

Yup, know ahead of time where they are. If they're open, you gotta take your happy driver butt in! :) If not, they'll chase you down.... not worth that stress! I'm a US driver, but can't imagine Canada is any different; they get pretty upset when you don't go visit them :)

there is one on Hwy 6, on the west side, just north of Hamilton. ( it is a portable, and almost never open)

There is a big one at Putnam, west of Woodstock.

there is one on the south side of the 402, just before Sarnia

I know that my Garmin Truck GPS tells me of upcoming Weight Stations 5 miles in advance.

Same here... Sometimes the station is on the other side of the highway. But there are a few location where I get a notice and when I get there the weight station is out of service, then it tells me there is another one less than 10 miles ahead but this time there is nothing there at all. I scream at it MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!! Which isn't exactly a thoughtful response when the other team driver is sleeping in the bunks. :biggrin_2556:
