Um Yeah?? HELLO!!!
Pilots ARE everywhere! You sir are either making all this up to get a rise out of us, or actually ignorant enough to believe all this junk. I think it's time to call BS on this guy.
Running out of fuel is a serious thing. This will never fall back on the company as you are ultimately responsible for the safe operation of the truck. 600 miles a day is not bad. It is easy to do 600 miles in an 11 hour shift. you sound to me like a driver that is very inexperienced. Obviously you need some more training and a BIG reality check.
FYI: It is not necessary to have A/C on a truck. If it was, it would be a federal requirement. The only federal requirement I know of is for equipment and vehicles that have a maximum speed of 10 MPH or less. Then A/C is required by OSHA. -
Welcome to the forum, How many fuel stops do you think you will need at a time.
This is the legal driver, I never make mistakes forum. I have a couple friends that driver for Indian River, they make good money which does mean your expected to actually drive the truck without damaging it.
By the way they can not make you pay for damage to there truck, they can fire you, but can not make you pay. UWX and CTI both pay that game.
As far as A/C in the summer I won't drive without it that alone would be enough to get me to leave there employment.
You always have the choice. "They cannot make you do anything", like pay for damage you actually have to agree to pay it, which would make you the fool for excepting there liability.lil may Thanks this. -
Not sure what you mean, are you talking about one truck stop chain? If so that does not sound right. I thought that company is 48 states plus canada. Even so, a driver has to have control over his/her situation. I guess i went to a pretty good diesel academy back in '78. They beat that into us,never run out of fuel, plan your trip, never trust a fuel gauge even on new trucks, look into the tank, and then stick it with something. Again 32 years driving, never ran out of fuel. I guess i am made up from a differant chemistry than the new breeders out here.

This is a privately owned company based in Winter Haven,Florida and is not a good company to work for.Unless you really need a job, please don't settle for them, and please don't waste your time or mine defending them here, unless you have driven for them.

In the words of Barbara Boxer esteemed senator for the moronic state of CA to a 20 someodd year Army General, Call me Driver, Hand, Sir, or Rollover as I "worked hard for that title" NOT Bud! (ma'am in her case!)
I've run out of fuel 2 times in 32 years and paid the price both times! Once with my own truck and 2nd with a company truck.
Why should a company pay for my mistake?
My last company I SIGNED a form authorizing a $500 deduction to cover an escrow account for in case I screw up and damage anything on the truck. I paid for: a mirror on a Pete when the trailer door flooped into it. Yes old style dock. A whole $30 dollars for a heated motomirror. No biggie. My fault. Not the companies. I didn't get the $500 back because I had a preventable accident and I paid the deductible. Again why should a company pay for a stupid mistake I made for falling asleep at the wheel? HMMM? If you ding or break someone elses equipment should they pay for your mistake? NOPE! Besides they are not the only company to do this.
There are pilots all over! http://www.pilottravelcenters.com/Locations/Find_Locations/Overview_Map.aspx?leftTemplate=false And in your area and the east coast more than enough! If they only allow a certain few did you not figure out how many gallons it would take you to get to the next stop if they only allow certain amounts to be bought and if that wasn't going to be enough then why didn't you notify that all-knowing dispatcher and explained that "Bud, there isn't enough fuel for me to get x number of miles and I need more!" Then done what he tells you to do and figure out the rest later.
Unless Indian River castrated their fleet you had plenty of time to get there! I've lost many coats of paint to several of those tanker yankers!
Yes, some companies can be cheap when they have their own shop. Ya gotta do what the company says or unload the truck and find better pastures. Not a hard thing to do in this economy. ROFLMAO!
Is that all you had to pay for insurance? That's a great deal! Try to pay it on your own! That's a good group rate! At least they did get you into a group rate as it's worse without a group rate! My last company had to go to a cheaper plan and it cost me $189 a week for my wife and I. We had to drop my son and get a children's policy for him as it made my weekly $300 a week.
Where does it say anywhere that a company HAS to pay your insurance unless you're a union and killing a company with demands?
History lesson: Insurance back after WWII ended was added to hiring packages to lure workers away from one company to another. It became a cost of business to keep good workers and a standard we came to expect when we hired on with a company. Insurance has always been a pay for service if you didn't work for a company.
Times have changed. Doctors bills have risen to pay for his employees, rent, equipment, band aids and medicines and needles. Insurance rates had to keep up.
It's NEVER been a law to give it, companies have to do what they have to do to keep money to pay you, pay costs and to pay the owner. The owner isn't in this to not make money! Again, unload the truck and head to greener pastures if not happy.
Oh, Odumbacare did NOT guarantee free insurance from an employer as so many thought after drinking the koolaide! YOU get to pay in the long run, or in 2014 go to debtors prison! Yeah, what I'd expect from a constitutional lawyer acting like a POTUS! I also loved his speech where he bad mouthed doctors for charging so much for a visit. What a socialist! The moron thinks a nurse works for free, rent for a building with offices power, machines bathrooms is free, supplies and malpractice insurance is free or still at 1940s rates! What an idiot!
Loading and unloading. It's something we all do. I can see several hours. It would take me a whole 2 hours to suck off a load of asphalt, 1.5 to blow off concrete, beans, plastic, ash and yes there were waiting times in all the trailers I've ever pulled from flats, tankers, dry, bulk, and reefers. Some even into a day or three (meat patch and those in the know understand!) and if I didn't get some kind of compensation for it I was gone. I knew if it happened once then twice it'll happen again and I'd be looking for those greener pastures.
Sorry Bud, but you really didn't do anything but whine. Yes it' a tip to others to check and be sure that Indian River is for them but still you ran out of fuel. They're cheap on repairs, OK I'll give you that one and insurance went up but that's still a good price! A lot of people can't figure out that if it's a group rate it's got to be better if they're writing a check for it which actually opens a whole nother can of beans! It becomes tax deductible when paid out of pocket and you use a certain amount like I did when I wound up with freaking cancer, the treatments, then blood clots and brain surgery! Thats just an example of the cost of insurance! Try to find a policy that has everything offered in that one you had or better and then, please be sitting down, when the quote comes in! My baby sister sells life/health in Atlanta and she can't beat that price unless it's in one of her group packages.
As for the escrow, at your next company if they say escrow to keep you from screwing up their equipment and you feel it's wrong, don't sign the company agreement and hit the door running.Last edited: Nov 4, 2010
Easy E Thanks this. -
Rollover the Original
Escrows for company drivers? LOL, you got screwed. You must have wanted that job really bad to give them $500.00 of your money upfront. When they gave you your money back did they include the interest that they made from your money? or did you just give them the loan for free?Last edited: Nov 4, 2010
